Hi all,
Just an update on Russ. I took him to deer camp for opening day. He enjoyed it. First he wanted to wear his hunting clothes on the trip up, cause if we saw a deer from the road, he wanted me to stop so he could shoot it. I told him no and he reluctantly agreed, then he wanted to stay at the rest area along the interstate and hunt from one of the picnic benches. Again, he agreed to continue to camp. We would sit on the back porch for about 20 minutes, then go in the cabin for a while, then back on the porch. After lunch we drove him into one of the fields on the property and sat him on the tailgate to hunt. No deer, but he had fun. He even picked on his old man for shooting a beat up 8 point.
Here is my sister's email
Russ is doing well. He is still doing outpatient therapy. He loves it. His attitude is so much better on days he goes. He even started Aqua therapy this week. He likes this the best. He was a little apprehensive at first because he doesn't enjoy taking showers anymore. I think the water pounding on this head agitates him. But the therapeutic pool was perfect for him. He is able to move and exercise without pain and pressure. The therapist told me the other day for every day he laid in bed it takes 2 days of therapy to correct. He will be in therapy for a while.
We have had several Dr's appointments since the last time I emailed and all went well. They put Russ on another seizure medication in addition to the one he already is taking. This medicine should also help the nerve endings in his back. Russ has a lot of shooting pain that radiates down his buttocks and sometimes into his legs. Quite embarrassing mind you when he screams Ahhh...my asshole.. So hopefully this medication will be double effective. He starts it tomorrow.
Russ has not had a seizure in 19 days. He felt as if he was going to have one last Monday evening but he was able to tell me what was going on in time and I gave him a pill they prescribed to stop the seizure and it worked. They are hoping with this medication and the new medication he will be seizure free. I am hoping too.
Russ is dealing with his pain a lot better. He doesn't seem to anticipate pain as much as he did before. He also is not swearing as much. He still gets weepy every morning and if he has been in the house to long he seems to get depressed. Russ seems to be happiest when he is out and about. Whether it be therapy, dr's appointments etc... I have been taking him shopping and on little outings every couple evenings. My brother even rode him up to the farm on Monday to see the hunters. He was in heaven.
We even tried our first motorized wheel chair in Dicks the other evening. Well let me tell you it wasn't such a good idea. Russ mowed over 15 mini bikes, Nicole ran the other way in embarrassment, leaving me, her friend Ashley and the stock boy Mike to try and catch him. He was in hot pursuit of a tree stand while dragging a store manikin which was caught in his wheel chair basket by the hand..... What a scene we caused..... Finally we were able to get him to stop and park the wheel chair. Mike was so generous to escort us out. Russ just laughed the whole time. Then when I got him in the car he said as serious as can be "See I can drive." Uggggggghhhh.....
Please stop by for a visit. Russ loves the company. And don't be surprised if you get a call from him. Hopefully at a normal hour.. That's the latest thing. He wants to call everyone or he just wants to stop by for a visit. Thanks for all your love and support. And a big thanks to all the Texas holdem groupies... It was a great time with great food, great friends and family. Russ and I had a wonderful time. It was awesome. Thank you.
Thanks all!
