two random new boat questions (boatwax/cleaner & oil)

1) what is best wax and boat cleaner for a new 911 with dark paint job? There are a few very light scratches in the finish or whatever in 2-3 spots i noticed so far. I can noticed only becuase I study the boat ..very minor but im wondering if there is something good to get them out? also any regular wash to use or stay away from?

2) where is best (easiest) place to get the mecury optimax oil for the 225 optimax engine? I am hearing that mecury optimax oil is the only way to go. Do any major stores carry? If not I guess where can I get online? I assume shipping will cost me a fortune.

I personally like the Maguires boat wash and wax, granted my boat is white but it has a mirror reflection on the sides. also the boat is Ten years young. Check out my pictures and you can see the trailer on the side of the boat

I used a sealant instead of wax on my 929 last year with great results. No need for a cleaner anymore..... just wet the boat then dry it off....all grime and bugs just wipe off. try ww.nowaxfinish.com for this product. I was also told by my mechanic after my opti blew up last year to use Merc Premium Plus oil... he said there was no need to spend the extra 15 bucks a gallon for the opti oil as the only difference is the opti oil is synthetic. He said the prem plus has the same rating as the opti oil...and this guy is responsible for the new power head he installed so i would think he knows what he is talking about. (i hope).

is the cost difference between the oils that large to make it worth the risk of owning a grenade? In my book, I'd rather spend a little now, rather then a lot later.. just my .02

Well mine blew up while running opti oil. So i guess it is a grenade anyway. Luckily it blew up one day before the warranty expired. Oil injector stopped up with the opti oil in it.

I've only had one motor 'blow' while at WOT...and that was a 25hp Johnson OB...broke the crankshaft...didn't hit anything, just broke....VERY bad sound....KER-CHUNK!

a 225 opti makes a KLACK sound when they blow @ about 5100. NOT a nice sound when the rod comes through the side of the block. If the rod had not broken the throttle on the side of the motor i think it would have made it in though. It sure was trying to keep running. It puked the day before the warranty ran out though (whew). Only good luck i had that week.

Use Bass Boat Saver on your boat, no matter what color it is. Best stuff available on the market IMO.
