The Tundra and Avalanche have arrived in the Atlanta BPS showroom, and are parked side by side. Only looked briefly, but they look awesome. I had seen the Avalanche, but this was my first look at a Tundra. Really nice looking. Kinda makes me want a tin boat. :)

I was over at the St. Charles/St. Louis BPS yesterday. They had an Avalanche elevated on a rack and titled at about a 45 degree angle from the floor..... From the top and sides, the boat was most impressive!

I was very disappointed to see that there were substantial waves in the running surface.

I could only shake my head when I looked at some of the other boats on the showroom floor to see a number of the fabric pull-tabs that were completely worn through and broken. Yes, I know that these are subject to constant pulling by customers. Yes, I have had them break on my own boats. I also know just how simple they are to replace. So why doesn't the person-in-charge show a bit of pride in his product and showroom by keeping the equipment in "showroom new" condition?

Scott,

Good point. Yes, every consumer knows things wear out. In the spring I have to replace the straps for my cover. However, if I went to a showroom and saw a cover with worn straps, I would shy away from that brand. The little things make the difference.

My dislike of the Avalanche comes from the one they got at BPS in Grapevine (Dallas). Around the back corners, the rub rail is "poochy" because it wasn't designed to make that tight of a curve. Again, this is the showroom floor. If it isn't right on the showroom floor (this is their EXAMPLE product), why would I expect better when I take one home? Of course, I'm jaded in that I had a bad boat buying experience at that store, and I own an Xpress. Maybe I was just looking for flaws.

The Tundra is too short (from specs... haven't looked at one up close). Everything about it looks great except the length. I believe tracker's website talks about the 16' model as being great for guides. If I'm taking 3 or 4 of my best friends out for a guide trip, I ain't expecting a 16' boat!

I have a friend who guides for catfish in a 20' Alumacraft flat-bottom boat. Now, THAT is a guide boat... it ain't pretty, and the metal could be thicker, but there were 4 people in that boat and we weren't in each other's way.

The Tundra is 18 foot and now 21 feet. I dont know if there are any models between them.

Well, both tracker and Nitro's sites are currently inaccessible, so I can't back up what I said. I'll defer to Mini's knowledge on the matter. So, it either wasn't the Tundra's specs I didn't like or it was 18' instead of 16'. I'm going nuts in my old age :).

I am right with you Mike....as nutty as they come and gettin older every day!

Now if they could just make the Avalanche in 20' or 21' they'd really have something. Hey Ken did you hear the same thing I did from Tracker, their suppose to put a big push on the Avalanches this year and I hear they are already testing the 20 ft proto-type Avalanche. Some of us would like to know the truth to these rumors.

They reduced the price of the 03 Avalanche by $1000 and they are offering more colors. I saw a blue one in Baltimore and looked pretty cool (Pewter is still my favorite). They took out the guardian livewells for 03 and added 1 HUGE livewell with a divider. This livewell is bigger but the guardians rock, so I don't know why they did it.

As far as a larger Avalanche....I haven't heard anything. Would be nice though.

For those of use "multiple speices" types who may, on occasion, need a BIGGER livewell!
