Hey guys, here's a question.

This winter, a foolish driver in a Honda drove his car in the side of my truck (in the snow going 50mph), thus totaling it.

I have replaced it with a 05 Tacoma. My last truck I had a button down bed cover and hated it. I have considered the "truxedo". It seems to be a big improvement. I have also thought of getting a cap, but the $1800 I will pay for the options I need is a bit harder to commit to. Who has what, what do you like about it, what don't you like about it, and what would you change if you could....

Thanks again..

I have a 2002 Ford 4 door truck and I installed a fiberglass bed cover. My cost was around $900.00. It fits good and tight, weather proof, lockable and looks good. It also comes off easily if I need to haul my 4 wheeler.

I have a hard fiberglass cover also & love it. It lockable keeps the gear in the bed dry, reduces wind drag & looks good. Mine is also removable, the only down side is being an 8' bed it is much easier with two people.

I know a lot of people like caps but they are heavy and I don

I have a Extang full tilt tonneau on my truck and after owning the regular snap down tyle i wont do anythign else. I had a hard one on ly last truck and i didnt like it. It was too heavy and if i had to plan things in advance if i needed to haul something that was too tall for it to close. The full tilt works just like a regular snap down one but it tilts up for full bed access and it comes off as a unit in about 30 sec so no more fighting with the snaps in cold weather. the really nice part is you can still unsnap it and roll it up if you need to haul something big.

The problem I have, is that other than fishing, I am a Scuba Instructor (so I have lots of gear to lock up, and I am also a avid longboarder (9-10 feet), so I need a roof rack, or be able to hang them out of the bed.

I also have a glass shell, same as above, $900. You can get a rack for the top for your longboards. You decide on a shell get one that has two locking handles instead of one locking handle in the center. I rig mine up with a raised bed and use storage below it. There are many different styles out there to fit you.

I love my A.R.E. cover!

If you haul a board get the fiberglass one and mount a bolt on rack to hold the board then attach a red flag and go, or just mount it in the bed and leave the tailgate down.

We've had both the ARE and Leer flat lids. As others suggest CLAMP it down do NOT SCREW it to the bed, that way WHEN not IF you want to remove it to haul tall things it comes off easy with 2 people.

I have had a full size cap on every truck I have owned since 1978 and I would not have it any other way, very rarely do I have to remove it to haul something and the extra space is wonderfull, it is nice if you have help if you have to remove it but not mandatory.

I did a search on "used truck caps" for my state and came up with a bunch of possibilities. I ended up gettting a fiberglass Leer to fit my 03 Ram Quad Cab painted to match for $700. It even had a Yamika rack on the roof. It took me a few hours to find on the net and it was a three hour trip to pick up from the dealer but it was worth it.

I had a Pace Edwards Roll Top cover that I just replaced a couple of month ago. After 5 years use the paint on the side rails was all faded off and the vinyl was separating from the aluminum slats. It was never water tight (it never claimed to be). I was glad to get rid of it.

I replaced it with an Access Roll Up cover I bought used. The vinyl is rubberized do it doesn't shrink and expand like a regular cover. I like it alot. I still get some water in my bed but I have a lot of holes in the bedrails from when the Pace Edwards was installed. I have a coworker who has the same cover and his bed is completely dry.

If you want a soft cover I think this one is the best on the market.
