My buddy has a Ranger Cherokee 118 aluminum boat, and he is having a problem with where to mount a transducer on the transom. The fishfinder is a Garmin 240. He has heard from different marinas to place it out as far as possible. Any info is appreciated, thanks.

As low as possible.

But not in line with any of the strakes or anything else that might cause turbulance.

And not right in front of the motor's lower unit!

Make sure it's mounted parallel to the ground,..and not the deadrise of the transom!! The signal has to shoot down and bounce back as vertically as possible for the best reading...you don't want it going off on an angle!!
