Had a little time yesterday morning and wanted to do some Crappie fishin, as they have been the only consistent fish around lately, so I loaded up the Nitro and my 2 1/2 year old son, Treyse(Trace), and headed for the water. He absolutely loved it!! I have been working up to this point by putting him in the boat with me, while I'm doing stuff in the drive way and the neighbors drive by and look at us like we are nuts, and it all paid off.

He loved the boat ride and kept saying" fasser Dad!" We even caught some fish on top of it. When we had been gone a couple hours The wife called "to see how things are going" and he wanted to talk to her. I handed him the phone and he told her that he "Caught a big Smallmouth" and some little crappies! We barely even have bass in this lake let alone Smallmouths!! I was so proud!! I guess he and I need to cut back on watching "Fishing with Joe Bucher" on the Outdoor Channel. He thinks everything is a smallmouth, even his Beta!!

After about thirty minutes on the first spot he looked at me and asked,"Dad, can we go for another boat ride?" Great, now the next thing you know it will be,"Hang on to your hat Dad cuase here we go" as I'm trying to pull up the trolling motor!!LOL

Great work, sound just like Cody when he was 2. Wait until he hits 4 and wants his own tackle box, and skips the toy dept at Wal-Mart and heads straight for the fishing isle....that's my boy!!!!!

just watch out for when he ask to take the boat out his sleft .my son mat is 8 and ask to go evey time me and my dad go out it is the beast thing in the world to take you kid fishing

Awesome Job Tim!! Rob's right, by the time they are 4 they want to hold and RELEASE every fish in the boat and they do get their own tackle boxes.

You can show Trace this one. This is my youngest, Devyn and fortunately in NH we do have smallies.

Keep bringing him because when 20 years from now he'll look back these are the days he'll remember.

I have a hard time gettin out of the driveway without my 5 year old daughter. As a matter of fact, for Father's Day last year (when she was 4) she wanted to take me fishing so I loaded up the boat and headed for a local lake telling my wife we would be home before noon. It was 90 degrees plus and i just knew she would wear out quick. Well......at 6:00pm I finally had to drag her off the lake!! Luckily I brought lots of water (but no sunscreen). Worst sunburn I've had in years (she was fine, mom put sunscreen on her before we left).

Awesome story Tim...

Keep taking the kids with you...

My youngest has been going with me since that same age...

He just turned 11 and he can do it all with the boat...I drop him off in the lake and he starts the motor from a cold start (not the easiest job for the 90hp) and picks me up...when we're done fishing I back the trailer in and he drives the boat on...

AND

He catches some nice bass!!! Usually outfishes me!!!

It takes patience when they're younger, but stick with it...the rewards are greater than you can imagine right now!

enjoy,

az

Tonight Cody and I are "camping out" in the back yard. And then getting up early....7:00am, (early for him) and hitting the water to start our panfish bonanza! Last weekend I spotted a couple of marina boat slips, chocked full of HUGE sunfish and bluegill. Not only will they bite steady enough to keep him busy, we can sell them at the local fish market, and then he can use his money to buy more tackle. I find it's a great way to start teaching him that money doesn't just fall into Daddy's wallet, you have to earn it, and spend it wisely. But the best part is always watching him crank 'em in. Inevitably, I'm sure, somehow we will "stumble" across some bass!

WOW, absolutely awesome posts everyone....... my 2 youngest, 12 yr old daughter, and 6 yr old son, are my fishing "team", sometimes we go out for cats, sometimes perch, bass, .... we cpr everything, if it's worth a pic that is, and have a "photo wall" in the garage, since we just got the boat this year, there's only about 6 pics so far worthy of "the wall", but i want that wall filled up, we've never had so much fun, and QUALITY time, as we've had going fishing. My oldest son(19)also goes when he's not busy with college, etc...... and our oldest daughter (18)has no interest in fishing but enjoys an occasional boat ride (just like her mom, LOL).I want my kid's kids to be on that photo wall someday next to their grandpa and grandma and their moms amd dads. I truly think these are some of the memories they'll have years from now, (sunrise on the water, sunsets too, etc.....) g'nite all! egMike

Just a bit of insite into "me!"..... You see me on here all the time pushing fishing with kids and contributing Rewards Points for kids..... I love to watch Jerry McKinnis - he has such a lay-back attitude - but, at the end of his show, when he posts: "Dedicated to Dad. He always had time to take me fishing." I hurt so much that I have to turn away..... My father never had/made the time to take me.....

Get out there and enjoy the love of your families!

God Bless!

me!

Wow Scott, that phrase at the end of his show gets to me too, I must say in a different way, my dad DID have time luckily, and took me many times out on Lake Michigan for Coho and Chinook , even though I didn't always want to go, I am so glad and thankful he did. But man, if that doesn't get to me anyway every time his show ends and that comes up on screen.... God bless, egM

Hey Mac,

I can't wait till next year!!! We need to get together and compare schedules so I won't be leaving on your first in! I already told Shilo thatt I am going if she is or not! If nothing else I would go just to take requests for you while you are doodlin on rod handles. Speakin of wich, she told me to pick out a new Pro Qualifier for our anniversary!!

She and the baby are doing great! He just turned four months and is getting so big it is not even funny!! Man how time flies.

Shoot me an e-mail if you get a chance. When is the Fall Classic in Dallas? It is only about five or six hours away!?!? You never know what could happen.

Thanks, T! At 52, I'm a bit on the old side to make it happen now..... But i do enjoy taking kids out and watching them!

A bit more to the story is that my mother used to drive me up to a pay lake near where we lived and drop me off for several hours..... This is when I was about 10 or 12 so we're talking circa 1960 in Cincinnati..... Needless to say, at that age, I didn't have any real idea as to how to catch fish. But it was the "older" men who hung around the lake that pointed me in the right direction..... Giving me hints, helping me rig my old Garcia Mitchell 300 and even letting me pull in their fish sometimes! I still remember that first catfish - probably about 3# - but a real monster to me!

These men are etched in my memory - even though their names and faces are not..... I owe them so much and will never be able to even say "Thanks!" to them..... I figure it's my turn to pass on this love of fishing to other kids.....

me!

That is a great picture. Your comments go well with it, but the picture says it all.

Mine is 23 and lives back in Texas. We get on the water at best once a year when he squeezes in a visit. They go from that age to mines age in the blink of an eye.
