Will upgrading my jack to a higher rated capacity necesarily make it any any easier to raise my trailer? Granted, maybe I should hit the weights, but this two-handed grind makes me think there must be a better way.

Funny you should ask. I just bought a new jack today at BPS. I asked my boat saleman the same question and he said it wouldn't make that much differance so I saved the 5 bucks and bought the 800lb one. I'm glad I did because when I got home and looked at it the 1000lb jack would have been too long and cause trouble when I put it in the down position.

If you are having to use two had, there is probably something wrong with the jack. I had to buy a new jack last season and went with the 1000 lb. now my wife can even handle the job if necessary.
