telltale water

Hello,



Could someone confirm or not the following: Just purchased a 2005 nitro with a 150 merc xr6. When I started it, there was no water coming from the telltale when she started. It took awhile but then came out fairly strong. But it was very hot. After looking around a little on the net I have read that this motor will not pee until the thermostats open and the water will be the operating temp which is supposed to be 143 deg. Is this true or is there an issue.

I have a 2004 150 XR6 on my Champion and that is how mine works.

I have a 03 XR6, and it does the same, when it warms up the water flows freely. If there is any concern about the thermostats, there are 2, one on each side ot the head, at the top of the block. They unbolt easy, and they arent too expensive, i think $15 For the two.
