I wanted to run this again to see what someone elses opinion might be.

I am looking at a 1996 Tracker Targa 2000 . It has a 175 EFI Mercury outboard which has issues and will need to either be rebuilt or replaced because of low compression test on two of the cylinders. The person who owns it wants $3500 .

The rest of the boat is in very good condition . The owner has redone the floor and carpeting put in new seats. it may need some gel coat work other than the engine.

Engine estimates are general but as low as 1500 and as high as 5000. The worst of it is you don't know until tearing into it.

My question is ..... Is this a decent buy?

Personally I'd look elsewhere. As it is, you can't do a proper test ride with a bad motor and there may be more underlying issues. If you are into rebuilding boats for the fun of it, offer what you think the boat and trailer are worth. At worst case, the motor may only be worth a core charge return.

Agree. I'd pass on that one and look elsewhere.

All the best,

Glenn
