During the FLW many of the pros, most on Rangers, but a few other brands too had these rods that go clear across their front deck locking down the rod lockers and tackle compartments from break ins. There are 2 "receptacles" mounted into the inside walls of the gunnels that the rod slides into, extends and then you put a padlock in the middle. The rod covers 3 compartments and is a supplement to the locker locks. I cannot seem to get my tackle compartment lock to work. Jamey and I fiddled around with it for a whole day once, and still can't get it to work. I'm afraid some time at a tourney I will come out to find $3k worth of tackle gone. Anyone know what these things are really called and where to get them? I looked in the BPS, Overtons, and Cabelas catalogs but found nothing. Please don't tell me they're only available on Rangers. I know I saw them on at least one Stratos. Any help would be appreciated. The "receptacles" I think were cast aluminum.

It's called a Loc-R-Bar, or something like that.

Lock-R-Bar?

Lok-R-Bar?

Try doing a search on google, or - of all else fails - search the BFHP. I've seen them talk about them over there.

They advertise in BASSMASTER and I think it is available from Bass Pro.

Thanks guys. Mini, I looked all through the catalog and didn't see them. What page in the master?

Thanks Mo, that's it alright! GEEZ, $156, I'm in the wrong stinkin biz! I know it's worth it to protect my gear but $156 for a metal rod and two little aluminum plates with holes drilled in them? Add that to my Christmas wish list!

Rob:

You can order direct from the manufacturer here in St. Louis off their web site with a secure credit card transaction.

I did a search of dealers and they didn't list BPS.

Yeah, I gulped when I saw how much they wanted. But you've got $3K worth of tackle. I've got all of $500 I think.

Maybe Craig can help you locate replacement locks for your boat. He did for me!

Y'know...looking at that thing, a good 10-lb hammer would knock those mounting brackets right off the gunwale, or maybe even bend the bar enough to work it out of the holes.

Then the thieves not only get your $3K worth of tackle, they break your $160 Loc-R-Bar and do a few hundred dollars worth of damage to your boat.

That's $3k not including rods and reels! LOL The lock itself works. But the little bar that the arm swings beind to lock itself doesn't line up. We moved the arm up down the threaded rod, we tried adjusting the bracket/bar. Nothing would catch. Plus, these locks are easily pryed open anyway. If I put the LocRbar in and have a cover on it, that should be ample deterrent to thieves to move on to the next and easier rig! Next is my SS prop!

MO, in my experience, if a thief is determined, there is NOTHING you can do to stop them. Hell, they could remove the ball from the tongue, take the whole trailer and boat off, and remount it to a new ball and hitch it to their truck if they really wanted to. But usually they're looking for quick, quiet jobs as my boat is right outside the window at home or parked right outside my motel window at tourneys! If they make even a little noise, I and my 12 gauge will meet them at the door!

A couple of nights ago, it got cool enough for us to open up the windows and turn the attic fan on.

We sleep in the basement, so there is no way out in the even of a fire or a break-in, except through three tiny casement windows which have to be knocked out by force. These were the windows we had open downstairs.

I went to sleep, but at 12:37 a.m., I heard footsteps right outside the windows and then someone jumping the backyard fence. It was quiet, and then I heard them jump the fence again and walk past the windows. Man, was I AWAKE at that point!!

I looked out the window and didn't see anything, but I still heard footsteps around the front of the house, and then a second set of footsteps came running up. Then they started talking. It was a couple of pre-teen boys playing in everybody's back yard. Two more minutes, and I would've called 911, had Beretta .40 locked and loaded, and hunkered down at the bottom of the stairs waiting in case someone decided to break in. Scared the crap outta me.

Next morning I thought, "I shoulda tripped the alarm siren just to scare the crap outta them." What parent in their right mind lets a 10- or 11- year old kid run around the city unsupervised after midnight?

Hey MO, hate to break it to ya, but they were up to no good. guaruntee it! You should have run out there and grabbed a hold of them and called the police to take them home. If they didn't vandalize something at your place they sure did someone elses. Why else would they be in peoples yards? At least let them know they can't mess with your house!

Yeah, except the neighborhood kids jump our backyard fences all the time. Too lazy to walk around the block. I can't keep my side gate closed.

The difference here is that it was after midnight. When I heard them talking, I realized that it was probably a "sleep over" at one of their houses. Maybe camping in the back yard. Still, if it was MY kid, the rule would be that after 10:00, you STAY in the backyard except to come inside for bathroom, food or drinks. Go outside the yard and you're fair game for the cops.

Mine has tritium sights. No problem finding it or aiming it in the dark.

No 10# hammer is needed...Just slip a crow bar under it and pry up. I wouldn't spend $150 on it. Locks keep honest people honest. If someone REALLY wants your stuff, they'll get it.

I used to lock my car all the time, all that did was get my windows broken. If someone pries that bar up, all it's going to do is trash your gunwales. For as often as you fish tourneys that require you to stay overnight somewhere, just bring your gear into the hotel with you. Then you can inspect, organize, re-spool etc....

Just my .02

Scott, I can't sell it if I don't believe in it. Hot foots, covers, jack plates, spare tires...now THOSE are accessories....LOL

But if someone wants it, who am I to say "No"?

i took my boat to a couple of tournies (catfish ) and got a motel. I don't think I slept for 2 nights thinking the boat was going to get broke into. bring the tackle boxes and rods/reels in but there still is some significant bucks just sittin out there. left the boat in a slip on another tourney and drove back to the hotel. i think that worried me even more. i think my next item will be the prop lock. the lock r bar looks ok, but the possibility really exists to have your boat really torn up. good insurance is definately a must, but won't help your next days tourney.
