No i have never heard that. you really get what you pay for with laptops. They arent quite as disposable as desktops so it pays to get a good one. You will most likley hold onto it longer then you would a desktop mainly due to the high inital cost. because of that you would be better served to get a top quality unit in my opinion. You also have to think about service, with laptops its not if it breaks but when. They are subject to much more abuse then a desktop woult normally be so they have higher failure rates no matter what the brand.
You already know my opinion from before. I have serviced hardware and software on desktops and laptops for years and like i said ibm would be my first choice followed by toshiba. I personally would never buy a dell, they are built flimsy.
