In July, when my parents were out here on vacation, I took my dad fishing in the boat. In a particularly shallow area of Lake Taneycomo, I tilted the outboard way up. Then I discovered that the metal hinges on the rear fishing seat will NOT clear the cowling as the seat spins.
I've got a particularly deep scratch (gouge, actually), about an inch long, in the top of my cowling. I don't want to have to take it to a body shop to be repainted. Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this scratch? Can I just sand the scratch down and repaint with a gloss black, or will I have to have a special black paint? Is the paint enamel, or something else?
FYI - I do have an air compressor and an airbrush.
