It's that time of the year, no matter what, the wind is going to blow. Tournament fishing is starting to get hot and heavy. Along with the unavoidable swells and choppy water comes little stress cracks in my hull. My hull is a 96 model 896. The cracks look like they are only surface deep. Is this common amongst any one else. Repairs? Remedy? Need some advice.

Stress cracks are VERY common, regardless of the make, model or mfgr!! It's just the nature of the material. Granted, some boats crack more than others,...and some are more serious than others. If yours are only through the clearcoat, and not into the gel,..then they're considered "cosmetic" and they are not worthy of the cost to repair them,...unless of course you can get your insurance to cover it if you want them repaired. Personally, I've had 10-12 'glass boats during my fishing career and they've ALL had "crows feet" cracks after a year or two....mostly around small radius curves and almost exclusively on the cap,....I've never had a hull crack! They're caused by the constant flexing of the hull and cap while running in the swells and choppy water we all encounter from time to time. I fish that water constantly, and it takes it's toll on a boat over time. I think the Avalanche will be the answer to alot of these issues,..especially if Tracker ever makes that model in a 20ft'r......we'll OWN the bassboat market up here....we like BIG boats up here and the market for a 20ft crack free boat is untapped! As far as remedy's and repairs,...it's up to you,...you can get them repaired at a good 'glass shop, but it's expensive and they'll eventually come back anyway,....there really is no remedy except for leaving your boat on the trailer,...LOL.....That's a pretty lowsy remedy,...but it's gauranteed!! HA!

I wouldn't worry about them unless they go down into the gelcoat,..then your insurance should cover it, and it'll need to be reinforced from the inside,...re-gelled and clearcoated. Hope this helps. Great Fishin'!
