I have a couple hatch covers that are so hard to open . They are not altered, and have been like that since new. I have a 95 model boat which had the cloth strap, I changed to recessed style. Still on a couple I have to use a short piece of rope wrapped around the handle, and pull like a gorilla to open. Any advise appreciated.

I say count your blessings; you could be complaining about loose covers which would be worse. Other than new covers the fit more loosely, I can't think of a solution. If they haven't worn themselves loose after 11 years, that ain't happening.

How about a silicone spray around the edges? That might reduce the friction and make them easier to open. I don't think it could hurt anything.

Is it the carpet that is making the lid bind up? If that's the case, try trimming the carpet pile. Use a pair of sissors and give it a haircut. That should buy you a little clearance.

Silicon spray on the edges of the carpet helped me solve the same problem.
