So on the way back from Wilson yesterday at some point one of my storage compartment lids broke off and disappeared forever. Apparently over time the aluminum pop rivets holding the lid to its mounting bracket broke, and yesterday was the the end. I back tracked the trip searching for the lid but was unsuccessful in finding it. Does anybody know where or how I can get another one of these lids? They are constructed from aluminum. I thought about making one but it could be nearly impossible to match the carpet, also my little bench vise may not be able to handle the bending. I have to get this fixed soon, its already driving me crazy, look like trash.

Any good sheet metal shop (HVAC) can make you a lid. The carpet match won't be good, but shop around. Our local Menards has Marine carpet in most colors.

I agree wiht Greg on the HVAC shop. Also you can most likely get the same carpet from your dealer. I did with mine even after it was more than 6 years old.

Good luck with it.

Also Mini made some new aluminum lids for his Ranger so maybe he will have a great suggestion as his look great!

My lids are water jetted, and welded and I am certain will be overkill for your boat. I would take the opposite lid off and runit down to a shop near you. Remove the carpet and have them duplicate the sample lid. Then recarpet both lids. Make sure you check the rest of your rivets!!! You may end up losing another lid.....

While the carpet may be new and not match due to wear, make sure to run the bias in the right direction or they will never match!

So, I built them. Not happy with the color, my dealer didn't have carpet for the boat, so I had to order some from Overtons, it wasnt a perfect match, but, its better than having a hole in my boat. I told my wife this winter I would just strip the carpet off all the doors in the back and redo them all so they match better. For now this will work tho. To build this, I purchased a piece of aluminum 19x14 3/4, then I purchased some 3/4 aluminum tubing. Cut the tubing to size and welded together. After I had the frame built I just pop-riveted the piece of aluminum to the frame, then covered the entire thing in fabric. Last attached the hinge, and that was the end. Like I said not exactly happy with the color, but I will remedy that when fishing season ends.

By the way thanks Mini for the tip. There were quite a few rivets missing on other doors, primarily one of the doors up front, only had 1 rivet holding it on. I am sure it would have gone next.

Nice job!! I wouldn't worry about the color difference....it looks close enough from VT!!

I made a deck extension for my boat a few years ago and the carpet is close but not quite a perfect match.....as long as it holds my fat arse, I don't worry about it!

Nice work! never thought of using square tubing....
