Just anupdate for everyone who gave me suggestions on curing my funky smelling livewell. So far i have tried bleach/water, baking soda and scrubbing them with vinegar/water and doing a vinegae/water soak overnight. Im happy to say the vinegar worked pretty darn good. I went to Bj's and bought a ton of vinegar fopr the job. They had 1 1/2 gallon bottles for about 3 dollars so i got a case of four and went to work. Thanks David M for the suggestion it really seemed to work. I dint put teh baking soda in with the vinegar because it would have foamed like crazy. First i scrubbed them with a brush and a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water and rinced. then i filled the wells up as full as i could and poured in 3 gallons of the stuff. I drained it a little while ago and rinced the wells out. There is a faint fishy smell in there but very faint. I put more baking soda in there to try to kill whats left of the smell. The vinegar/water even removed the stench from the the foam and carpet on the lids and area around the livewell.

Tanks everyoen for the suggestions. Im glad i almost have it cleaned up....

Now it's as fresh as a summer's eve.......

Sorry,I just had to say it..

I'm sure somebody told you.... but i would never put anything but baking soda in your livewells... PLEASE make sure you clean the bleach and any other TOXIC chemicals you may have used before you throw a few fish in there!!!!

The dead fish smell will disipate over time!!!!

Good deal Jim B! Vinegar, nature's best natural deodorizer!! Kenny also makes some good suggestions to rinse out the livewell as much as possible for the health and well-being of future fish.

Yep i will be making sure th wells are super clean before i use them again.

KB i have actually been using bleach for years to clean my wells out. i mix a teaspoon of bleach with about a quart of water in a spray bottle and use that to disenfect the wells. II always flush them out good and i have never had a fish die from it. The only reason i have the smell in there if you missed my propr post is i missed one in my well, drained it and the fish sat there for two days. It stunk so bad i didnt think it would ever come out.
