I have a 93 nitro and as of the end of last season i noticed that it was getting gradually more difficult for me to turn my steering wheel. Now it is at the point where i need 2 hands to turn the damn wheel. It is not hydralic do i need to replace the steering cables? Thanks guys!!!

Unhook the cable from the motor...

Now turn the motor back and forth by hand,,,

also turn the steering wheel back and forth,,,,

See which one is binding up,,,,it's probably the cable,it may be fraying.

At a minimum get some sort of lube in there.

Its sorta realted, but I had the same problem with my motorcycle's clutch cable a while back. Got some graphite based lube in it and it was fine for another 6 years.

Not sure if graphite is the right thing to use on a boat's steeering cable thought, but someone here will know>! t
