I have a 2000 135 Opti-Max, I was wanting to know if anyone has used a Champion plug in this motor.

I have the NGK in it now, I just wanted to know if anyone liked of diliked the Champion plug in this motor.

Mike -

I know that I'm going to get a lot of flack for this..... I always do..... But.....

Unless you are pushing your equipment to the absolute extreme - such as in drag boat racing - you will never know the difference. Even then, the real difference comes in the form of sponsor's dollars - not in outright performance.

Mike,.....use what the mfgr recommends,..NGK'S....don't listen to the fool behind the curtain!! LOL

The engine manufacturer recommends a plug because they have a contract drawn up by their marketing department and the plug manufacturer's marketing department that requires them to do so. Not because one plug is any better than another - but because there are very big dollars involved.

Been there, done that.

Whatever,.....you'll only find NGK's in my boat motor for a reason,......I prefer them over Champions....used them before,...never again!.

Hey guys, there is another reason to run the NGK plugs in the opti, the champion plugs do NOT last. My dealer is also one of my good friends, and make a note, I do NOT buy my plugs from him, I get them wholesale from another vendor, the OEM NGK plugs will and do out last the Champion plugs many times over in the OPTI motors.

I assume that you have run tests on both to prove this? Would you mind publishing the exact results?

Come on! This is like "boat bashing" over on the "other" board!

Get the plugs where you can afford them. I prefer the NGK's because I think they last longer. Champion makes a good plug, but I have fouled them out in the past on EFI motors.

I have no experience with Champion plugs in an Optimax.

Mini

Off hand, does anyone remember the NGK, plug for a 150 XR6? I think it's something like bu8h or something?

Guys, I didnt want to start something, I just wanted to know if anyone has used the Champion plug in a Opti-max motor. I think I will kept using the NGK plugs. Thanks for the information

Mike...don't worry, I think a few people just woke up on the wrong side of the bed (or on the floor!!!) this morning.

I don't have any hard data on one plug versus another, however I have found that NGK's last longer in my 2-stroke four wheelers and small outboards than Champions...they don't seem to foul as much...again, no cold, hard facts just my experience.

Now everyone else, play nice or go to your rooms!!!LOL

I feel, Put in what the MFG recomends while the motor is under warranty. That way is something happens they can't blame the plugs.

After that, Run what you want. If you feel Champions perform as well as the NKG's then thats fine.

In my 1993 Johnson I have used NGK, Splitfires and Champions. And the Champions have been the best.

Well,...you wanted "opinions".....you gottem...seems the NGK's get the nod for reasons of "longevity" and less chance of fouling....good luck with whatever you choose!!

Just for the record.....

Some 30 years ago, when I started riding dirt bikes, someone once told me that NGK's ran better in 2-strokes. I've used them whenever possible ever since. Not that they really do work any better; it's just that I have a long, established comfort level with them.

Same with Stren fishing line and Shimano spinning reels and Nitro bass boats and Jeep 4-wheel drives and Purina pet chow and Charmin TP and.........
