What are your thoughts on a spare tire and/or hub? My trailer has the grease fittings on the hub and I'm currently pumping in a few squirts of grease after every haul. I'd like to get a spare tire/rim and mount it on the trailer so I'm prepared. Is it necessary to have a spare hub as well?

I carry spare bearings, seals and tools to change them in my truck.I have never had to use them, but it sure is nice knowing they are there.

The only draw back to having a spare hub set up with bearings ready to go would be the size. And if was mounted to the spare then it would be keeping water out of it.

Water just laying on the bearings will destroy them in a heartbeat. That is why I repack mine at the end of the year before storing for the winter.

A spare tire is a nessicety.Just think of leaving your fully loaded boat along a highway at night while you run to try and find a spare to change a flat.

Ps. looking at your pics I see you have a big ol' burban. If you have room in there to stash away a hub with bearings already in it,I think that would be the way to go.

I do carry a spare hub with bearings ready to go. It is not that big really. I have seen a set up somewhere but dont remember where that made a mount to carry a spare hub and mount your spare to that. Mine I carry in a kitty litter tub with another set of spare bearings and seal. Over kill maybe but alot of trailers interchange and I may not be the one needing it.

Yep me too...I carry everything including a small tool set and plenty of DUCT TAPE:)

A Spare hub is never a bad thing to carry if you can, its cheap and can be a real trip saver. I dont carry one because i have disk brakes on my trailer and the hub is a part of the disk, its a very expensive part in my case. I do carry beraings pre packed with races and seals and the tools to chenge them if i ever need to. When i had my old boat i carried a hub with bearings pre packed and the seal in it so all i had to do was slip it on if one ever failed. I put mine in a big zip lock and kept it in its original box. And dont forget the Duct Tape

Ah yes,never forget Duct Tape.

I once taped up a foot long crack in my hull and finished out a day of fishing.
