Got a 2000 Mercury EFI 225 . Lately I have had a problem with the engine stalling. It will start up fine and run but occasionally it will stall out when its idling. I

I had a similar problem last year with my 150 xr6. I tried changing the bulb first as a cheap easy fix but that didnt fix the problem. It ended up that my fuel pump needed a rebuild and that cured it. If your motor has a diaphram type pump like mine doesw it may need a rebuild. The part is cheap and its easy to do. I would try changing the primer bulb first then maybe look at the pump.

Tom,

Same motor as I have and I notice that my fuel bulb is always semi-soft. I have never needed to prime mine and have never had any stalling issues. I would replace it and see what happens.......cheap fix if it works.

It's either the fuel pump or your anti-syphon valve on the gas tank. Try only filling the tank up to 90% next time and see if it still does it. Does it happen more after you've idled for a little while?
