After my class reunion Sat, I didn't have the energy to get up early to go to Ti, and meet Carli, sorry Carli. So I fished in P'burgh and south which is still 15-20 miles south of "my" water. Winds of course were out of the south so ended up going up into the Saranac river at noon time to hide a little while. This river mouth is dynamic in spring for smallies and eyes, steelhead, nice LM, etc but mostly SM. Well, I pulled 2 small dink smallies on my jerkbait, and then switched to a crankbait hoping for a LM. Well the water was 74, at least 6-8 degrees warmer than the lake, so I did NOT expect any quality smallies in there. Well I dragged that fat free shad right down the side of the river channel and after it bounced off a rock, like text book, a 3.5 lb smallie slammed it in only 7 ft of water. Usually my river smallies only last for 2 weeks after opener MAX. Anyone else catch nice smallies in WARM water like that? Proof positive, you are ALWAYS learning while fishing. I WAS after LM, didn't catch a one.

Rob,

I was flippin' docks on thursday and was getting smallies in 2-4ft of water.....Even caught some walleye under a dock.

Now I'm all screwed up!
