I just bought a 99 Nitro 640 lx and am having difficulty in the shifter. I push the lower button to disengage but I cant move it forward to warm up the engine. Any ideas???? Thanks, Eddie

Push the lowr button in and shift as you normaly would into forward but the drive will be disengaged allowing the motor to rev.

Eddie - I had what sounds like the same problem, will she start OK but you can't engage Neutral button?

1. - could be a bad throttle, there was a recal on some Mercury 3000 models last year, you may be able to check with Craig Roberts (look in the member list) from Tracker MI.

2. They may have just mis-alligned the shift linkage. Last time I had my tracker in for service this happened. I could NOT engage the neutral bottom in when running, OR when out of the water could not engage it either. The boat would start but would be engaged in Forward. Took it back to Tracker and they in a matter of 60 seconds re-alligned the shift cable and off I went!

Thanks to all who helped. I was just pushing in the lower button and not lifting up on the red trigger. It works now. Thanks again.. Eddie

aww, c'mon Eddie... that has to be a FIRST... no one's ever admitted to doing that before!!!

(not even me (not me! me, me...)!

Yup, been there. Better yet is when you have say a thermos of coffee next to you pushing on the button and try to figure out why you aren't going anywhere!

How about taking a new girl out for the first time and the boat won't start and you do everything from pulling the plug to the pull rope. Then low and behold you notice the lanyard switch is a bit askew......OOOOPPPSS! Look like a real dope with that one. Caught lots of fish to try and look like I know what I am doing....OUCH>

I cut a weekend trip short and had to load the boat with the trolling motor because the motor wouldn't start. I thought it was in neutral but it wasn't clicked in. I tried everything....except jiggeling the throttle.

BTW...Welcome to NTOWS new member. We can use another Okie them Texicans are starting to pile up. Where do you do most of your fishing?

Eddie,

I am having the same problem and posted a couple of weeks ago. A member by the name of Thad suggested turning the motor all the way to the side. (the side that pulls the cables out) I tried it last night and the button on the shifter let loose allowing me to push the handle forward for fast idle.

Try it and see if it helps.
