Someone asked in a post a couple of days ago if I would share more about the science fair project I did on Knots.

Here it goes:

I tested 3 knots-The Improved Clinch, Palomer, and Trilene

I used 10 pound test line (Trilene)

To conduct the test I took a fish scale that had a digital read out. I just tied the line to a small screw that has the hook at the end that you can hang stuff on (can't think of the name). I then tied the other end to the digital scale and pulled until it broke. The scale left the read out on the screen. I can go look deep in my closet to try to find all the results and stuff if you want me to. It was fun, I finished in the top 5 of my school and then won what is supposed to be a regional fair. Only 3 schools came though.

Hope this helps

That's cool BJ. I'm going to try and find something fishing related to do when my science fair comes around, I think it's next year. Don't go searching, but definely let me know more about it if you ever stumble across that stuff again. It sounds pretty interesting. Josh

Yeah I seen ol' Hanky Parker do a test like that on a machine..very interesting. But ya' know BJ most knots are pretty good on their own..a lot has to do with people ..not havin' drag set, fightn' em when their green, not checkin' your line often...etc,etc,etc. Then they tend to blame it on the knots. Heck I used a clinch knot when I was a kid until I learned better but, lost very few fish if it was tied good. The knot is only as good as the person tying it.

TEE

Tee's right. I cannot seem to get my 14 year old son to take a little care when he ties. He will cinch down quickly without wetting the line and not check his knot before he casts. He sees alot of MY spinnerbaits go sailing off to Davey Jones Locker as a result. I guess I could tie for him but that doesn't teach him a thing.

Harpo

Two Thumbs Up for choosing a Practical science fair project!

I once did one on the amoeba.....

.....only practical if you're suffering from dysentery!

Get em' on the improved Harpo...not too much harder and if someone is using MY spinners(regardless of who)..I tie their knots...too expensive anymore. After losing a few I learned and have them check the line after a dozen or so casts....I do it now just outta' habit.

TEE

Ive lost a few of my Dads spinners....but i ALWAYS check my knots now that Ive known how to tie them (since i was 8)and i replace them too. (He says i dont have to but i feel guilty if i dont.)

T.S.

And remember, you can slingshot a spinner, crankbait or even a c-rig with a good knot. You "crack the whip" when you cast and you can say bye-bye to whatever is tied on the other end. I have done it with grubs on 1/16th oz. lead head jigs. LOL!!

TOXIC

RattleTraps are my favorite launcher...LOL

Launched one into a bridge piling one time...it was like it exploded!!! When those suckers bust off when you cast, it seems like minutes before you hear them splash! hahaha
