Today in my email, I received a letter from the Bank manager of the bank of Nigeria, offering me a chance to get 20% of 25 million dollars. It seems some poor gentleman with no heirs deposited this money in the bank and has since passed away. If no one claims it soon, it will go to corrupt government officials. All I have to do is open an account here in the states and this man will hire attorneys to draw up the paperwork to have the money transferred to my account. How can I lose!?!

We all know this is a scam, but please be sure your elderly friends and relatives are aware of this. Several years ago I had to talk my mother out of following through with this scam.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I will forward the email to them. I would post it here, but it is rather long.

Of course with all that money, maybe I could afford those sparkles...

What they will do is issue credit cards against the acct and run up bills in your name destroying your credit until you spend $$$ to get it fixed. Rich, send this to the Attorney General's office so they can investigate it.

Yes this one has been out there for a few years, before the internet they used to fax them to offices!

My folks are in their 60's and well read and mom still works full time. They didn't fall for this one but DID (luckily it wasen't a $$ mone) fall for the one where it says the Federal Government was trying to put a "Tax" on every e-mail. This from my Mother who WORKS for the Federal Government!!!

Yes, agree Rich, with the internet it is TOO easy for scam artists to get information to our elderly and those mentally challenged.

So then how come they haven't scammed you yet Trep? LOL Couldn't resist, that was WAY too easy!

Rob,

This is an old one and the AG is aware of it. The way the scam goes is after you set up the acct and send them your address, they start hitting you up for legal fees. A couple of hundred here, a couple of hundred there. Easy to get the desperate and naive with the promise of millions!

There's also one that leaves a caller ID or voicemail to call a desolate loved one somewhere in the islands. When you call it, they bill you thousands per second until you hang up and technically I guess they can. It's identified by the area code and intl code. I cannot recall it right now, but they went after my grandmother. She knew to call me at the time since I was in communication sales. These people ought to be shot! That is simply horrible preying on folks that likely barely have enough money to survive anyhow! Send these scammers to Iraq before we start dropping the bombs. Better yet, give them tin boats! LOL

Rob - I thought about saying "elderly and trailer trash redneck hunting guides" but thought that might be too specific, so went with mentally challenged LOL

Ladies and Gentlemen, the gloves are off!

OH, that was low mister! That's it, TWO nekked indian ritual snow dances each day until June! Besides dem stoopid scammers no better den to mess wid us rednecks, weer lible to sik our dogs on 'em ifn dey comes neer da house/trailer! And ain't nobody from GA supposin to be callin nobody trailer trash. Dats war it all dun startid!

Hey, if you do that many snow dances I might actualy get to try Ice Fishing!!!!

Back to the topic at hand - I still can't beleive the shear number of non-eldery/redneck folks who actualy BUY into these scams! Like my mama always said "you don't get anything for nothing, there is no free lunch!" These the same brilliant folks who spend their rent and kids food money on lottery tickets?? Ashame we let them procreate!! Oh that's right, if the didn't reproduce the democrat's woulndn't have anyone left to pay to vote for them!!!

Ok, that ought to start a war!

Well see I KNOW you ain't talkin about me now. Because I are a republican! But it does crack me up at the little convenience store around the corner from work. It's right across the road from the project, (low income), and I usually stop there to get gas on the way in or home. There is always somebody there reaking of alcohol at 7:30 AM trying to use food stamps to buy beer, cigarettes and lottery tickets. Meanwhile their kids play dirty in the street and live on $.25 boxes of macaroni and cheese. I saw a lady one day spend about $40 on scratch off lottery tickets. She finally won one for about $20, and then spent THAT on 20 more tickets which she lost! In the infamous words of Pierre....Give your head a shake! LOL

No Rob wasen't talking about you, just the lower forms of human life in this country (I reserve the lowest term for ANYONE that harms children in ANYWAY!). Let's see the cost of a vasectomy or tube-tying vs. raising a kid you DON'T want!

Yes Rob, i've seen them too. Also seen the guy in the (fill in the blank with any high prices toy - boat, car, truck, motorcycle...) while living in the projects and having starting kids!

Trepman - Republican by birth, Libertarian by choice!

Hey,

HEY!! Where can you get a .25 cent box of Mac and cheese??......my kids hungry and the 929 has a payment due.

TOXIC

I hear ya Trep, that's why I drive late model trucks and boats so my kids can go to private schools, my wife doesn't have to work, and my bills are paid. For those who have visited, I don't live luxuriously, but we do have a dry house, with always plenty of fuel oil in the tank so my wife can keep it 70+ degrees, and the frige is always full. My kids have already had more shoes, clothes, and toys then I have probably owned my whole life! I've had the same pair of jeans for 2 years and finally splurged this month and bought a second pair. Then I went absolutely nuts and bought myself $100 worth of deer hunting clothes! It's like Christmas! LOL Trailers aren't all that bad if you keep them up, and put things in perspective. It's a good temporary/disposable house! LOL But when you have one for say 30 years that's falling in, leaking, drafty, and the rats call it home, but have a brand new pickup, snow machine, dirt track car, four wheeler, 3 new rifles a year, and finance tatoos and barely squeak out enough left over for a 12 pack every night.......you need a little adjustment. We have entire villages or small towns of them around here! 4 kids, 6 dogs, 3 or 4 broken down cars in the never mowed lawn and big pile of beer cans falling off the back porch! THAT is trailer trash. Me and my neighbors are frugal! I opt to spend my money on my kids since I'm not convinced I'm staying here long anyway. But I might try that lottery ticket thing! I hear the odds of winning are the same whether or not you buy a ticket! I haven't bought any lately..........but I'm hoping to win soon! LOL

You folks got so off track I almost forgot the first post. Seen it before. Turned it over to the FBI and the AG.Both said thank you and we known but because it is off shore there is not alot we can do. Now some one posted about the off shore $1000.00 per min phone calls..That can be stopped. Contact your local phone company and request that your phone line not accept or dial international phone calls. It's free and unless you call someone overseas often (you can still make the calls after verifacation)you lose nothing. Did you know your pc can make overseas calls with out your knowledge at some web sites and cost you big bucks.

Just more stuff to watch out for.
