Anyone ever run a 189 Sport or the earlier 185 Sport in saltwater? Is there really any harm in doing so?

Thanks for the warning. Really searching for something "family friendly" that I can use in both fresh and salt (inshore, bay, nothing offshore). Any suggestions?

If you like the Nitro line, look at the Nitro center consoles they are very nice and not priced to bad.. The 19 foot liner boat is a great fishing/family platform.

I would go with a regular bay boat...they are open and deep for young kids to be able to stand in and not have to worry about falling in, unlike bass boats that are all deck. And there are plenty of people here in Texas that bass fish out of bay boat so don't fell like you won't be able to fish freshwater if you get a bay boat. And a bay boat will handle rough water well and will pull a skier or tube with no problems.

I've bass fished out of a center console bay boat a number of times. It's not quite as comfortable as a big bass boat but it is close.

You really need a saltwater boat to fish saltwater, the differences are subtle but large.

Galvanized/aluminum trailer, pretinned wiring, sealed switches, all will give you much longer enjoyment then watching a freshwater boat get cancer and die in front of your eyes.

NYMART,

I think Nitro makes the NX898 setup for salt water.. I know you can get it with no carpet, dont know about the wiring though.... Maybe someone else can chime in, Triton used to make a TX series, but discontinued that version, basicly a bass boat for salt water. Not sure about Skeeter, I recall they used to make a salt water version of the ZX bass hull. I recall, someone else also making a crossover type boat, not sure who it was.. do a search for bass boat manufacturers on the web and check the model line-ups, I pretty sure you'll find something in a bass hull with 2 consoles.. If I get a chance I'll look and post the info..

And you'll still be replacing your freshwater troll motor, your battery wiring, your dash wiring, the fish n ski windshields will be garbage, the carpet will be ruined, and all the fastners on the boat will be rusted out.

It'll be fine, go for it.
