is it ok to run WOT constantly? As long as I Keep it between 5200 and 5400 rpm is it ok? Typically I stay around 45 to 50 mph. But was wondering about running WOT for long periods of time. Most of the lakes I fish running 60+ is a little too fast.

Yes, it's OK. Outboard motors are designed to run at full speed for extended periods.

I asked this same question a few months ago. Do a search and you'll get some very good answers.

Thanks Harpo. O BTW- I have a couple days off this week from work (I think) I'll check my schedule and maybe we can hook up and go fishing!!!

Why are you home? I thought you were going fishing?

Ok now that I know I can run my engine WOT...

Now my question is....Am I hurting my engine running around 40 to 50 or slower?

Is the rpm range for the Merc 150 XR6 5200 to 5400?

If the engines are designed to be ran at higher rpms than we run them (assuming that is at 5400 rpm) am I hurting the engine if I push red line?

Thanks Ya'll are great!!!

Didn't go. Andy did some babysitting last night and didn't get home until nearly 1:00am. I knew he would be about as lively as a sack of wet leather if I got him up at 4:30. Also tomorrow is my wife's birthday and we are having a little party tonight so I didn't want to go all the way to Dripping Springs just to cut it short and hurry home.....OK the truth is I slept late.

If I was andy i would be waking my dad up at 4:30!!! :)...Kinda reminds me of a couple of weeks ago when I went to JSB and got home around 12:30 and got up about 4:30ish i guess..can't remember. Hey if it was a "fun" trip I prolly would have done the same!!!

Tell your wife HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hammer Down Man and forgetaboutit!

But, with gas at prices that they are...you'll do better at about 3/4 throttle:)
