Well, we expereienced some of the worst of it here in the Carolina's. Ice storm deluxe - of course most of the rest of you have been seeing it on the news.
Lost power on Wednesday evening, and it's still out. If power is not restored today, and I'm unable to locate any dry ice, we'll loose the contents of the freezer this weekend. It's pretty well full of meat (pretty good variety), along with about 20 gallons of handpicked blueberries. If it goes downhill, then I'll probably do as someone here suggested on the radio yesterday. Pack it all up and take it to a homeless shelter/kitchen and let them cook it up and serve it.
Expectations are that it may well take another 3-4 days to restore power. Right now the wood stove is doing a decent job in the basement, and sleeping is not a problem. We have hot water, since the water heater is gas powered.
I lost the tops out of 3 bald cypress trees (about 60 ft tall), and lost 1 bald cyress altogether. Many oak limbs (large variety) are down. Had a beautiful red bud tree in the back yard that had a huge canopy top that was simply spectacular in the spring. No more, lost the entire tree. Our prize crype myrtle tree (probably 10-15 years old and very nice), took a major hit to several major trunks. I'll be able to trim it back though. I'll post up some pic's after they get developed.
We had about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch of ice on everything.
We are fine (wife, I and the dog), and will be doing some major grocery shopping once the power gets back on and is stable.
Now, if I hear anymore about neked indian dances . . . . .
I'll be contacting my Italian cousins in NY to come make a personal visit.
