While loading the boat the last time I noticed the rubber bow roller was missing. I went by BPS while I was out today (I love my job) and picked up a new one along with some Quickclean. Problem is the boat is sitting right on the pin that goes through the roller and I can't budge it. I know it would be easy to do once I unload the boat but I would prefer to have it fixed before I travel. Anybody have any good ideas that don't involve draft animals and block and tackles, on how to lift the boat up just an inch or two so I can get these little job done?

Harpo

Harpo, you could jack it up with a floor jack enough to cange the roller but i think it would be better for the boat ans easier to just change it after you take it off the trailer. Do you have a local lake that you can go to to float it off and change it?

Take a 2x4, cover it in a carpet scrap and jack up with that. The 2x4 is to distribute the weight a bit. Also, do you have ALL the tools you need? Some bow rollers have those goofy caps on them that you destroy to get it off. If it's a bolt type, you're fine. Remember not to overtighten the nut as it's supposed to ROLL...

Here's to hoping you got the yeller kind that don't mark your hull up as bad as the black ones do.

Harpo-

try just loosening the winch strap. My bow will lift about an inch with the strap loose.

I agree with Steve, when I lossen my bow strap the bow lifts about an 1" to 1.5". Harpo, you have a roller on your trailer? My PT 185 does not have one?

Loosening the strap was my first effort. I tried getting my shoulder under it and it didn't even budge. I don't have a floor jack so I think I'll just do it at the lake tomorrow. I guess I was looking for those magic words that Samantha used to say when she twitched her nose.

Mike, of course I got the yeller one...it cost more.

Chris, yeah I had a roller up there...what you got, the T-bone?

Maybe even find a steep sloping street or driveway if it's a lot closer than the lake. Wet your bunks beforehand, and see what happens when you wench and shove her back.

Next post by harpo will be how to get his boat back on the trailer septik ;>)

At least thats what would happen to me...oh it already has...lol

Loosen winch strap, loosen transom straps... Back trailer up and apply brakes firmly! Maybe the lake is a better idea!

Got 'er done. Took less time at the lake than it did to write this question.

Harpo

Great Harpo - That's what I ended up doing when replacing my bunks. Dropped the boat into the lake (with me driving it off the trailer), tied to shore, trailer out, old bunks, off, new bunks on, boat back on trailer. less then 5 minutes the whole deal!!
