.....check your livewells if it's going to get cold (like freezing cold). Went out and opened my livewells and they were 1/2 full...OF SOLID ICE....DOOOOOH!!! I forgot to pump them all the way out when I came in the last time. I'm thinking, this just can't be good for the pumps so I've got to do something. Let's see, what can I jury rig to melt the ice....hmmmmm....lightbulbs in the livewells?, no, that might melt the wells if they get all whopperjaw, not to mention electricute me if they fall on the ice and break, I could pour hot water in,.... no, I can hear the livewells breaking as we speak.....Steal the wife's hairdryer....nah....So, what did I do... I went down to the basement and dug through some old stuff and found a pair of mega fishtank heaters (I used to have 80 and 125 gallon tanks), I put them in the livewells after I poured some warm water with winshield washer de-icer in it, and let them run overnight. Worked really well. Actually got it liquid enough to pump them out. And yes, I'll remember to flush them to get the de-icer out before I put any fish back in. Just an FYI

HAHAH Tee :)

Sinced I fish throughout the winter and live in the lovely balmy confines of the Suburbs of Chicago, IL I have developed a paranoia for dealing with cold weather boating... One of my tools/methods is a vertical jack (ancient thing) that I use after every trip to tilt the tongue way up into the air and drain the hoses out the back... Boat come off the water...park out of everybody's way...wheel chocks go under the trailer tires... and up goes the tongue ASAP... So far I have never had a broken/frozen live well or hose... Also, trim the motors up and down a couple of time to slosh the water out and around... I don't know why but after I run it there is always still a second "round" of water that needs to be drained after I tilt it up and down once... Then I always check the lower unit for water after EVERY winter trip...it's a hassle but that too has apparently prevented a busted/frozen lower unit...

Toxic,

You might give this a try. Get one of those electric heaters that farmers use for heating livestock waterers.

Just a thought.

To have water in the livewell would assume that one had caught a fish worthy of keeping recently--Right? Hummm, let me check. Just what I thought--- No problem here.
