I was asked by a friend - About how much does a bass grow a year? I think I read somewhere about a pound per year. Does that sound right? Now, I know certain conditions would change that either way but again, does a pound a year seem correct? thanks for your comments....kenny

You cannot make such generalizations regarding growth rates. It depends on the species, location, weather, food....

Different bodies of water have different growth rates.

I do know that I've read in more than one periodical that a 12-inch Smallie in Northern NY is 5 years old.

We've had several lakes here in Iowa renovated. Drained, killed, and restocked. I think these stocked fish grow faster in a renovated lake some reaching 15 inches in three years. After the lake settles down I think it's a lot slower depending on the forage base. I used to fish a 12 acre pond where the forage was mostly crawdads. I caught 12 inch bass with pot bellys the size of a bass pro's.
