I just had an idea (smell the smoke?)

How many of you attending the rally have Motorola talk-abouts or equivalent FRS radio's?

I thought it would be fun to be able to stay in touch and joke around while out on the lake. Plus, since Champlain is so HUGE, it might be a good idea to have the ability to communicate in the event that someone gets lost or has mechanical problems. They have better than a 2 mile range over the water and with all of us out there we should be able to relay messages across a broad area of the lake.

I have 2 of the Motorola FR60's that I am definately bringing. They are compatible with other Motorola's and other brand names as long as the work on the FRS frequencies.

Just looking for more ways to have fun and be safe )

Good suggestion, Marke! When I'm patroling the Boy Scout Lake, we always have another boat with us and the Council supplies two FRS radios. When one boat goes to assist a canoe or rowboat in trouble, they can radio the other boat for assistance.

The FRS's are nice, but you will need to relay messages over longer distances and the weather can affect their range.

I would STRONGLY encourage those who have FRS radios to bring them along.

Marke,

Good Idea. I don't have those radios 'cause up here we still rely on the smoke signals. one puff is "me doing fine" 2 puffs is "me need help" three brownish puffs is "stay away from me" and a large black puff is "bad gas"!

Based on the conversations on this website i'd be worried that most guys would be talking rather than fishing! Which is O.K. by me, I'll be fishing...can't two things at the same time can ya ?

Y'know, those things can be equipped with headsets! That way, both hands are free to fish, and you can still yak!

Just keep the radios away from Rob and my buddy Mike. Those two guys can do some talkin....LOL

Last weekend there were several times when the two of them were on the bow of my boat gabbin' away while I was on the back platform just minding my own business and catching fish.....LOL

We're down to less than a month. Man I can't wait

Ever seen the FLW format? The last day, each guy is equipped with a mic and his own live camera crew. Folks back in the weigh-in tent can watch and even ask questions. The pro can answer and demonstrate. Really cool I think. For any of you that are interested the FLW is up here 2 weeks after the rally. I always learn a lot from those guys. I'm pulling for Denny. Back to the radios, I don't have one, but if anyone has a spare.....

It's amazing how the prices have come down on those things. I paid like $60 a piece 2 years ago. Now you can buy twin packs at stores like Best Buy, Costco, Sams Club, etc. for less than $50 and they are actual Motorola's.

So if any of you don't have them, the price is much more affordable now.
