I have a HB998SI combo, software update to 5.700

Questions;

1.) When I set a waypoint does it automatically record the depth of water at that waypoint? If so, why would the depth later show up as 80+ feet when it was only 18' when saved?

2.) Are there any sources for waypoint icons that are more application specific than what is pre-loaded into the standard navionics program that comes pre-loaded from the factory? I mean, I don't really need "phone booths" and "internet cafes", but I could use a "submerged log" icon, or "submerged old roadbed", or "submerged" structure of some kind. I know I *may be* a little anal on this, but these are expensive units and used for fishing.

3.) When does HB plan on releasing the Southeast version of LAKEMASTER? I'm holding off upgrading from the pre-loaded until then, as I feel that there are more/better features included in the LAKEMASTER software.

Thanks! And Happy New Year to everyone!!! Hope everyone stays as happy and healthy as I'm blessed to be for 2012!:D:D

Pretty sure that I can answer one of them -

1. gps data only and not depth.

2. I know that some guides have put programs together for specific lakes (Lake Fork as an example) so that key 'boat lanes' and 'significant structure' are noted.

Thanks guys! I was actually using the SI when I set the particular waypoint I mentioned. I'll have to check other waypoints as I get more accustomed to using the unit. The lake levels have been fluctuating as TVA engages in "flood control". Lake(river) levels should be at winter drawdown levels now, but we've had some intermittent heavy rains over December, and the water levels have been going up and down as TVA opens and closes the sluices. The waypoint management software upgrade is where, and how do I access it? Is it in the HB program I downloaded to my laptop?

JSkid,

The 5.700 software (or whatever the next release number for the 998c Si units is going to be) has not been released yet. When it does it will be available on the Humminbird web site where you register you unit.

The program you downloaded to your unit is the HumminbirdPC program. You will not use it to update the software in your 998c Si unit right now.

Greg,

The software update that I downloaded from the HB site was labeled 5.700. The HB rep who ran the seminar I attended in early December spoke about the 5.800 update not being ready yet. Have I perhaps gotten a mis - labeled update?

Oops!

Sorry JSkid I got my numbers mixed up...

The 5.700 version is the current software update. I meant that the 5.840 (or whatever the version number ends up being as it will be higher than 5.840) software has not been released yet. I saw in a post by one of our Marketing guys that this new release will add the ability to:

Ok, cool! The guy at the seminar had said back then that the 5.800 had some bugs they were working on at that time. He was really stoked about the new Lakemaster program which rubbed off on me, so I thought I'd wait for its release. One of the features he thought would be included was a feature that would show "real time" lake levels which would be helpful to me, what with the TVA fluctuating lake levels year round. The theory was that it would highlight the " normal full pool " levels in one color, then the "actual" level at the time in another. Kinda sounds too good to be true ( or at least to good to be within my price range ) , but we'll see.

JSkid,

What it sounds like he was talking about are the interactive functions that your 998c Si unit should already have with the 5.700 software. There are a few extra menus that are in your unit that work with the data from a LakeMaster-Humminbird mapping card. Take a look at this Al Linder You-Tube video that shows them:

All you need is a LakeMaster mapping card that has your lake on it and you are in business JSkid!

Well, therein lies the problem; so far, LakeMaster doen't have a card for my region(Tn, Al,Ga,Ky,Va,,NC, and SC.). So I'm waiting..........:D
