I just bought a new 2012 Pro-Guide V175 Combo with a Mercury 115 4S EFI engine on it. While I am not new to boats, it's been 20+ years since I've owned one and 4 strokes weren't out there yet. The manual states the maximum RPM range is from 5,800 to 6,400. I'm currently playing with prop size to get the engine to run flat out with the boat trimmed at 5,900 to 6,000 RPM with my normal load, is that a good target or to low? My other question is for normal cruising from point A to B what is the recommended RPM if there is any such thing. I'm thinking about 4,000 to 4,200 RPM. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I think you can turn a little more on the top end for speed keeping in mind more speed = worse holeshot most of the time. As far as cruising speed, it's all up to you. The range you mentioned will give you better mpg than WOT and most motors have a sweet spot for the best mpg. All of this AFTER you break the motor in by the book. Very important.
