I went to the dealer yesterday to scope out a new rig. From earlier postings you know I am looking at the PT 175 or PT 185. I fish with 2 other "big boys" 330lbs and 275lbs. Me being the fly weight at 215lbs. I have been on a friends PT 175 and we have put 4 people on his boat at times without problems.

The concern I have is the weight capacity of only 4/560 lbs . How close do you all stay to this limit?

I know I should probably go to the PT 185 but I like the idea of the PT 175 wit the 60 HP - 4 Stroke-EFI. I think it is a good match. I can't get a bigger 4 - stroke for the PT 185 and I feel it may be a little under powered with the 60.

I had problems with my last ELPTO - 75 on a 2000 Deep V -16 so I am a little leery of them. I had to get a new powerhead after only 2 years...just after the warranty was up.

Thoughts?

Tom, I too am a "big boy", 290lbs. The weight limit of (4)@560 lbs is with the maximum motor size. I believe my tag in my PT175 says the maximum motor size is 75hp. My dealer said to remember that the 4-strokes weighed more, so I stayed with the 2-stroke. My guess is that you'd probably not be able to run more than a 50 hp 4-stroke. I went with the Merc 40 and it runs our boat fine with myself and my 2-teenage boys, and I believe we are pushing the limit with cooler, tackle, etc.
