Rob's right,..they usually sell them. It depends on how their contracts are structured though. Some mfgr's GIVE boats to Pro's as their "compensation" for the year. They are required to meet "X-amount" of days per year at appearances, boat shows etc. Then they sell their boat at the end of the season for whatever they can get for it and they keep the $$ as their "salary" for the year. Other companies sell their boats to the Pro's for the price of materials only,...they're built with no labor figured in or frt, prep etc. They may sell their boat at the end of the season and they also keep the profit (selling price MINUS their initial "cost"). Pro's that win actual boats at tournaments like Rob mentioned don't want to have to deal with it, so t hey either sell it to a local dealer on the spot, OR they are issued "certificates" for a free boat from the sponsoring Mfgr. I know that when KVD wins a boat certificate, he gives it to his brother Randy, and Randy will sell it to a customer and then give Kevin the money. Randy owns a very popular and reputable dealership/sporting goods store in Kalamazoo, MI. He sells Rangers, Champions, Trackers/Nitros, Tritons and other stuff, but when Kevin wins a Ranger,...it goes straight to Randy's place. (D&R)
There are no steadfast "rules",..everybody can work their own deal,...and as Rob mentioned,..being at the right place at the right time,..can mean a sweet boat at an even sweeter price!!
