Elete Series will be on one of our lakes this week and I plan to follow a couple of them some of the day. Other than stay home and let them fish, is there anything I should know.

When I was down at Clear Lake, Ca last year and the Elite was fishing the biggest "No-No" was not to give them any personal info about the lake i,e Fishing spots, lures, colors etc. Other than that, just give them plenty of room. Two of the nicer guys were Timmy Horton and Alton Jones.

Bring your camera and camcorder....

Public fishing is public fishing, but I usually give them plenty of room and not follow them around. I look at it this way, most of them are "at work".

A couple of years back, I was fishing at one of the bridges on Champlain during an FLW tourney. A pro from Cali cme by and told me that was his spot and he had been fishing there earlier in the day. I chuckled and told him that the bridges are everyones spot on Champlain, but gave him plenty of room and backed off since it was at the end of the day. My GF at the time didn't care and kept casting by the bridge. I fished away from the bridge and still caught fish. The pro wanted to know what I was using and I showed him. My GF ended up catching a 3 pounder. The pro missed the cut.

BobG - what you had there was "karma"!! :D:D I wouldn't have moved if asked that way (good for your GF!). I certainly wouldn't have shown him what was working! Now if a pro or other tourney fisher asks me nicely, that's a whole different story. Manners gets you further than demands.

Im with you Jim. It all depends on how the individual starts the conversation. I have no problem moving for anyone trying to earn a few $$ pro or not. But act like an A$$ and thats what your getting back. It may not be proper but I just cant put up with people like that anylonger. You try to be kind to everyone and you get that crap. That just gets on my nerves. OK Im done :D

Im gald your GF caught a nice one in front of him Bob,and yes I agree, its sometimes better to avoid conflict.

Since you plan on "following a couple of them part of the day" give then plenty of space and watch your boat wake. The rules state that the tournament anglers can not ask or recieve information from non-tournament anglers during the official practice or during the tournament. They can neither ask or tell you to leave a spot you are already fishing. Treat them like you would like to be treated if it was the other way around.

I have watched the elite top 12 for AOY the last two years on Alabama River in Montgomery AL and Lake Jordan. My tip would be give them space. These anglers are professionals and this is how they make their money, so respect that. Watch which way they are fishing, toward shore or toward center of lake, and don't get in their way. Have fun and enjoy. Most will react to their fan base with a wave..etc. and they will politely ask you to back off if your too close or need to move your direction. Just remember that the most popular anglers will have the most boats following them, which adds to the problem. Plus camera boats. I usually watch the not as popular, so I get more one-on-one time (if that's the right phrase)
