I was cleaning the boat up this morning, getting it ready to take to my oldest's pre-school class tomorrow morning, and noticed that my drivers seat (PC 175 2000 model) has worn/torn the carpet directly behind the right side. This is wear the hinge on the seat has rubbed/torn the carpet off the rear deck.

I looked at the seat (drivers side) and moved the hinge that holds the seat to the base up about 1 inch so it will not rub anymore. BUT - this now leaves about a 1 inch gap exposing part of my underseat storage.

Have any of you other Pro Team/Pro Crappie owners had this happen? And if not, keep an eye out for it.

For anyone - suggestions? I figure I can cut a thin piece of aluminium and screw it to the seat base to cover this opening. This might also allow me to install a lock thru the aluminum.

Other options?

Trep, can you give a more encompassing pic? Say back up. or zoom out a little to get a better look at the surrounding area. That way, maybe someone else will have a good idea on prevention! Sorry about booboo! Send me your boat and I'll fix it!

Let's see Rob, send you my boat? Hmm that is WAY expensive and leaves me with out a boat :-(. No dice!

Here is a picture where you can see the tear better and the metal hinge in the upper left hand corner is the part that tore the carpet. Beka suggested just fixing the carpet every few years and forget about moving the seat. I'm leaning towards reparing the carpet but also moving the seat and installing a piece of aluminium and putting in a lock too!

Well, hopefully Doug is still reading and can forward this to Tracker engineering to put an end to, and it will all be because of our good friend Trepster! trep, instead of a piece of aluminum, how about a piece of hard plastic like the kind they use on the slide pads for trailer bunks. Then just well counter sink the screws, and your set. Plus it won't squeak. Just a thought.

Probably too much HP with that 40 on there!!....It's throwing your weight back and putting excess pressure on the seat back...thus,..wearing the hole in the carpet,...........downgrade to a 25hp or a 9.9 and you'll save a lot of premature wear on your carpet!!..LOL Just a thought...

Yeah and lose some weight! LOL go back to your original weight. 6 lbs 8 oz!

Trep

I have a 2001 PT 175 and I think the seating configuration is different than the PC 175. It looks like the seat on the PC 175 sits in sort of a recess. The seats on a PT 175 are 3 abreast and all are on the same plane. The vinyl back of the seat rubs a bit on the end of the rear deck but nothing like what is happening from your seat.

Bear

Bear - The PC 175 does have a different seating set up, just wondering (not looking at the PT 175 up close) if the hinges were set back as far as they are on my boat.

I'll take a longer to look at the problem and possible solutions.

Mac and Rob - If i lost any weight i'd have to bungee myself to the seat on take off! I'm still looking at supercharging my 40hp to get 20lbs of boost and i'm FLYING!LOL

Thanks Rob, Once again typical sales guy blaming everything on Engineering. We design stuff, we write shop instructions but we are not out there on the assembly line...LOL

Seriously, I hope someone in QC/QA addresses the "spare parts that we so commonly find in the bilge area from time to time.

Trep, you shouldn't need a bungee if you have your lanyard connected to you kill switch..LOL

Check your seat hinge for burrs or sharp edges, file any off if they exist. I got a nice cut on my leg once from a burr on my front fishing seat. As far has the carpet goes, maybe you can shoot some epoxy or something on it before that rip spreads(like the old finger nail polish on the runs in the nylons). Ah...not that I wear nylons....LOL

Marke

I do understand that this was the first year for this model, so things like 2 1/2 years till a seat hinge wears thru some carpet is something even I might miss in QA.

The vacuming of the shavings I agree, though I had very little actualy come out the bilge over the last 2 years.

Even the plumbing of the rear livewell that everyone with a 2000 PC 175 I know had (Mike L's drain hose froze and broke) was corrected in the 2001 model. They do seem to be making incremental improvements each year, which is what i'd expect.

Heck say on Dateline last night that the NEW 2002 Nissan Altima did not get a GOOD rating in offset crashes due to too long a delay in the airbag going off. Nissan corrected the problem in newer cars and it got the GOOD rating. So even HUGE manufacturers have problems with new products, but as long as they address the big ones and keep improving, i'm just fine!

Your right Trep! I checked out my PC175 and my carpet is wearing through also...mine hasn't torn like yours but it won't be long before it wears through. I'll have to come up with something to stop it also. Thanks for the tip!!! .....Mike L.

No problem Mike L., just sharing as usual!

I went ahead and for now put the seat back in its original position and will glue the torn carpet back in for now. I'm gonna think this one through before I do anything. Right now i'm thinking of some kind of cover just for that area over the carpet to keep it from wearing further. I'll have to take a trip to Home Depot and see what they have.
