This last week, for the first time, I put three other people in my boat and took them out on both Taneycomo and Table Rock. With four (4) people, a full tank of gas, and all of our fishing gear, here is what the boat did:

Holeshot (full stop to on plane): 4.3 seconds

Top Speed (measured by the speedo, since I don't own a GPS): 54

RPM's: Don't know because the tach is acting goofy

Ride through moderate chop was fairly good. Had to idle back a bit to about 45 to soften the ride. Fished three at one time (my mom just lounged on the bench seat) without a problem.

More and more I'm thinking that a 3-blade stainless prop (14 x 24" or up 1" in pitch from my existing aluminum prop) would give me a higher top end speed without hurting my holeshot. And I hate to say it, but the 150 is probably too much motor for the boat. A 115 or 125 would have been a better choice, and would have saved me some bucks.

Great boat... Oh, Mo...you can't ever have TOO MUCH MOTOR.... Tim Allen should have taught you better!!!

Mo,

I'll be right over. I'll trade you even for my 90. Keep you from having to 'back off', and help me out at the same time.

Do we have a deal?????

MO, a 150 efi? You wanna dump it, let me know! I'll do my part and take it for you. How's say $1500? LOL

MO - I've been telling you a 40hp will do you fine, especially one that's ALL READY BROKE IN!! Swap you straight up and i'll even throw in the Tracker Extended warranty. Then I can swap your 150 to a local shop for a new 75 merc AND every other option I could put on the boat!!!

Okay, it MIGHT be too much motor, but it's just the RIGHT amount of FUN. Thank, guys, but I'll keep it for the time being.

Greg: my wife thinks that me having ANY power tool is too much for me to handle. She got that idea from Tim Allen.

Rob: It's carbed, not EFI. Another possible mistake I made, but I like a simpler motor with fewer computers.

Trep and Tex: Sorry guys. Not ENOUGH ponies in either trade.

Do you think my math will work on going to a 24" pitch?

Mo,

I have the carbed 150HP XR6 and do not regret it. It fires up reliably and runs like a ----- ape!! I might get an EFI on the next one, but for now, the XR6 has been flawless. Nice rig!!

MO, I've got a 99 125 Merc that would look really good on that boat. Almost as good as that 150 on the back of mine!!!

Mo,

I think it's a 21" Laser II. I'll check it tomorrow when I get up. I work until midnight.

Bob G.

Mo,

Here are the numbers from my prop. Maybe Bob can enlighten me as to what it is.

Laser II

48-16546 21P

OK MO - How about Tex and I group trade ya? A 90 merc and a 40 merc - That's 130hp, you can use the 90 to save you gas and speeding tickets and the 40 for a bad trolling/kicker motor!!! LOL

Bob G.

Wow! I'm a bit surprised that you can hit 60 with a 21" pitch prop. I guess it goes to show what a glass hull can do compared to a tin hull. Thanks, though, for digging up the information.

Trep:

Nice try. Very creative solution. But how are you and Tex gonna share one motor?

Mo,

I don't run 60mph very often. I usually run around 50 to 55mph(GPS) on a calm day.

Bob G.

Simple. I've got the bigger motor going in, and am bigger than him. I'm just not going to drink beer with him to break the tie. The man is a funnel.

TX:

If'n he's a funnel, how is it that he's still so skinny? It seems that for every "Lutheran Lemonade" I drink, I add a pound. All those carbs, man, they just stick to my ribs!

MO

Tex - I was thinking something a little more cooperative then the biggest gets the motor!

First we figure out what a slightly used 150 XR6 gets on the open market, sell it out right and split the cash in the form of a used 115hp for you and a 75hp for me.

Other option would be to keep the 150 and trade your Targa 18 and my PC 175 as is in on a new Tundra Walkthru w/out a motor and put the 150 on that baby. We could then store the Tundra at my place in Atlanta, since i've got the garage space. OR we could meet every other weekend at Hartwell to swap and fish. Give us a good excuse to see each other and fish too!. "But honey, i've GOT to go to Hartwell this weekend, it's MY week to get the Tundra, you don't want to let our investment go to waste!" Sorta like Timeshare for a boat LOL

NOW WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!! I never said I was interested in a trade! :^)

All I said was the a 150 on a TV-18 is probably more motor than the boat needs, and I wanted to share that little tid-bit with anyone who is looking in to buying one of these awesome boats.

I'm perfectly happy with my motor, and with the boat's performance, thank you very much.

But, in case I blow the powerhead, I'll give you guys a holler, okay????

Oh carbed? Well $1200 then, that's my final offer! LOL

Lessee, at a hunnert a horse, my motor'd be worth $15,000 minus depreciation, say 15%. Tthat brings it down to $12,750.

I'd say yer about $11,550 short there, Rob.

Woops, overshot the price there. A new XR6 would run about $9K. But yer still $6450 short.

Details, details. You wanna sell it er not? OK FINE, $1300.00 but tha's it, I ain't goin a lick higher. That's a fair price seein as how ya probly dun beat it ta death by now! LOL

Ohhh this is like EBay - MO I'll go $1,300.01, do I win??
