I have a 2000 Pro Deep V17 that the paint is starting to peel off the side of the hull in a few places. I called the dealer to see if I could purchase a quart of matching paint to repair the problem. They informed me all that was available was a 12 oz. spray can of paint which I purchased. The color is 97 Star Silver Metallic, part # 34983. The spray can of paint is not the same type of paint that is on the hull. Although it is about the same color, the metal flake is not the same and the finish is not glossy.

My question, is it possible to get a quart of the paint that was originally painted on the hull at the factory? Who do I need to contact?

Thanks

go to any auto paint store where they custom mix the paint.they take a picture so to speal with a camera that tells them what pigments to mix into the paint.it matches somewhat close, not perfect all the time.

the paint you got in the spray can might be a lacquer paint and might require buffing.also your paint on the boat could be weathered a bit and require buffing out also.also if spraying with a spraygun, the air pressure and distance away from the boat makes a diffrence in the color and the flake in the paint, not to mention the thinner,or the mix of paint also.a lot of factors go into blending of paint, which i know is diffucult to describe.there is a blender you spray on the surface to melt in the overspray, also you need to buff out the paint all around the repair so your new color will blend into it also.

in the off season, take it to a autobody shop and let them blend it.

Sometimes the "scratch & dent" repair shops can do a better job for less $$. I've seen them work even with difficult to match metallic paints and the guys who know what they are doing perform miracles!
