As most of you all know I have a 2001 TV-18 and I am wondering what you guys think about the paint on Aluminum?

How do you touch up all the chips & scratches.

Wish I knew then what I know now !

Don't laugh now, but in my case I went to the auto parts store and got the little touch up bottle with the brush in the lid, had to buy about 4 of them to find closest color match, in my case it ended up being a Toyota or Honda color if memory serves. Anyway it's a REAL close match and at a couple bucks, it's worked for me on the couple small touch up spots I've encountered. But, now like I said, don't laugh, that's for the greenish top part of the side , which is actually all "sticker or decal".

For the bottom I have a small container of "Star Silver" that came with the boat, from Tracker, when I bought boat. egMike

i hate decals on the side of a boat. the stickups have just about gotten the best of mine. will take them off by the end of this season. you can probably paint them on, but then that will probably rub off too unless there is some special type of paint out there.

charlie, did you read my responce to your post about restoring the water proofing of your cover? i saw a bottle of "star brite" at academy that is made for this. i think their website is starbrite.com.

Paint is pretty. I have an Xpress that I'm trying to sell. I admit that a lot of the scratches (okay, all of them) are my "fault". However, there are areas that are having paint issues that aren't from scratches. They're small spots, but still. Of course, I only care because I'm trying to sell the boat. I went on boattraderonline.com to check my price against others (and I was way low, which is what I'd expected), but the ones that show enough detail show the same issues I'm having. I hate to say it, but I think Tracker had the right idea with no paint.

Thanks James I read your post but still havent treated the cover yet. and mike yes tracker has aluminum boats but put paint on most alot of them, the hull on the TV-18s are painted and mine will have no paint in a few years, what will that look like?

Not a good idea to paint aluminum fishing boats. Wait and see what thoes big red tin boats look like in a few years if they are fished in.

Makes me wonder what my TV-18 would look like with no paint and how hard it would be to remove all paint and decals, it couldn't hurt the value of my boat LOL.
