This is one really big cat. They never got to weigh it, as it wouldn't fit on the scales. Caught this winter on the Santee-Cooper lakes (Lake Marion) on a trotline. The current SC state flathead record was 79 lbs. This one is quite a bit bigger, but would not have been eligible since it wasn't caught on rod/reel.

TT,

Not to be a naysayer but look real close at the photo....where the fishermans hand is behind the fish...sharp clear distinction... looks like a doctored photo to me (thanks Corey this monitor is awsome). Also, there are no drips under the fish and a lot of blood on the fins.

Tox - you NEED to go fishing!

I would imagine that after wrestling something like this into the boat, attempting to get it weighed, then hauling it home and everything, that there wouldn't be much water left to drip. After all, it's not like it was in a livewell!

Additionally, the place I got the picture (Anglerschannel.com - board I subscribe to), did the story and checked it out in advance. They are very good at verifying what get's posted as an article. Not just a pic' that someone can upload.

Don't think that this is a 'doctored' photo.

TT,

I won't argue the fishing need LOL....Rob calls it the "durn fever" I call it evolution (or the lack thereof). Not tryin to start anything....just looks like a lot of blood on those fins and you know cats are slimy critters. He doesn't look too dried out to me....I'll let some of the more experienced catters decide. If you say it's real...it's real.

looks real to me! now that is a nice cat that would surely get some slime on the boat. bet handling the fish they had to grab hold of it by the fins and when they are out of the water for a long time, i think they tend to turn a little red anyways (can't remember for sure as it seems sooooo long ago since i caught one).
