These are the official un-official results from yesterdays un-official pole!

Pole results may vary(depending on who does the counting).

In some cases one of you wanted two pick two farorites !

But that goes against the un-official rules for the un-official pole. Who was it ? We'll I see no reason ,let alone any purpose served mentioning Robs name,so that will be the end of that!

We (I) Listed a catagory for other,I'm not sure why ??

The results were as follows:

CHEVY (GMC) = 16

FORD = 11

DODGE = 10

(OTHER)TOYOTA = 5

Thank you all that participated.

Have a great weekend Mac. lol

no reason to celebrate,...i knew it all along!!...(nyuk,nyuk)

Thanks for your support,....now let's hook'em up and head-out!! Have a GREAT weekend EVERYONE!!...

Mac

"Like a Rock,..."

Wait I found 3 hanging Shads on Dodge ballots! LOL

Nissan is coming out with a TRUE full-sized truck for 2004, will tow like 9000 pounds... dunno if you care.

Watch it Tex, just read that Nissan will be providing parts (Variable Transmissions - Ford will use the CVTs in North American vehicles including luxury sedans and sport-utilities) to Ford. And of course Ford owns Jag, Rover, Volvo, Aston Martin and now the controlling stake in Mazda (Mazda is now listed on the www.ford.com site under "Pick one of our brands".

Each manufacturer makes a truck that will pull just about everyones boat. some will be up to the task of everyday towing and some will not. It all comes down to personal preference. I've had Chevy, GMC and Dodge. All would pull my boat. Being loyal to the manufacturer means nothing to them. I traded in my Dodge for a Chevy and Chrysler didn't call me cause they don't care one way or the other.

The Nissan Titan will sport 300+hp and 375+ ft pounds of torque. 5 speed automatic transmission, 78.8" wide... my Silverado is 78.5". It's 76" tall, vs my Silverado at 71.2".

I don't want to hear how this is another import small truck. I have an open mind on this one.

Mike,

Maybe not small but still import. If there is one aspect to auto buying that we can all suppurt, it is "Buy American". Now before you go off on me about how all of the American trucks are full of forign parts, which is true, Mac said it best "Keep all of the profits here in American manufacturers". He was referencing the fact that even though Honda, Nissan, Toyota advertise made in the USA...The $$ leaves the country. I don't like that. I will buy one (which one I have no idea) of the big 3 makers 3/4 ton trucks here very soon.

TOXIC

Tox - I think you're 2/3rds right. Chysler is owned by Diamler/Benz so all your profits go overseas! There is only 2 US automakers! In fact if you'll read up you'll notice that most of the NEW Chysler products (so far in cars) are getting MORE Benz parts!

But, and this is just my opinion, thinking Buy USA ONLY is a little short sighted. What IF Japan, Europe, Australia thought the same way and did NOT buy ANY American owned/built cars? There would be NO Big 2 anymore! The new Pontiac GTO is a Holden Austrialia car, so was the last Caddy CTS. It is a global economy out there boys.

I agree Trep but $$ talks and the forign manufacturers will still sell the parts to the US makers. I just wish that some of these forign countries would pay their debt to the USA and we could eliminate our deficit. AND stop all of the complaining.

TOXIC

Trep,...the Japanese don't practice that philosophy at all!!

Try "exporting" an Amercian made car into Japan!!! They want our steel and our wood,.....but they don't want anything to do with our cars or many other of our US built products,.......yet,..we let them build plants and products over here, with certain stupulations of course,(80-85% US made content,..big deal!!)..then they sell them over here,(they will NOT import them back into Japan)...and then they take their corporate profits back over there.....they love to USE the USA....but their economic policies for "fair play" leave a lot to be desired. As far as Holden in Austrailia is concerned...GM owns them!! This "global economy" is costing us jobs like crazy!! You would not believe how many 1000's of engineering jobs are being sent over-seas to India, Mexico, China, Japan, over the last and NEXT few years!!,..because it's cheaper to BUY intellegence and send work over there than it is to TEACH it here and keep the jobs in this country!!! While they learn about reading, writing, engineering and arithmatic, over there...making themselves extremely valuable in a world-wide market,..we're teaching our public school kids about "tolerance, adversity, political correctness, and accepting deviant behavior as an alternative, acceptable "way of life"....i see it everyday where i work......you would not believe all the foreign people GM hires to fill critical engineering and mfg jobs...they can barely speak english and we have to "train them" to take over OUR JOBS!!!...they can buy the talent they need overseas and bring it here cheaper....we have to train them to do our jobs....then they go back to their country and train their work force,..and low and behold, before we can say "down sizing",...the whole dept. is gone,...1000's of jobs are sent to India and Mexico, we're all laid off,..and the corporation meets their "cost and personnel objectives".

Doesn't matter how they get it done,...as long as they do!! Buy those foreign cars if you want,....just don't expect our kids to have any kind of well paying automotive company jobs available when they graduate....very sad,..but VERY true!

Mac

I agree with others to "buy american" and I do almost exclusively. BUT, there is a matter of longevity and bang for your money.

I am just a lowely government worker (paid firefighter) and of course I also make the government salary. When I buy a vehicle, it MUST last with as little problems as possible. My first toyota was just a standard 4wd p-up. Ran that this till 150k miles with very little problems. Only reason I sold it then was because someone wanted it so bad they offered an unreal price for it. If I had to pick of the big three, I have always liked Fords (Have had a ranger, supercrew, and currently a Taurus).

My wives Taurus has 52k miles and had THREE transmissions and before 25k miles and another torque converter at 30k. I loved my Supercrew, but had some serious build quality issues (trim, paint, interior, etc).

Bottom line, just because someone buys a 'yota, nissan, honda, etc, doesnt make them any less "american or patriotic". My MAIN issue when buying a vehicle is "What vehicle can I buy to get what I need and want and it to be the most reliable?"

Now, I know people that have had Chevy's, Ford's and Dodge's that have went forever with little or no problems. And I also know people that have had the "more reliable" brands with lots of problems. It is all about preference and luck.

Anyway...All the big three have some NICE and VERY powerful engines. The Duramax is very impressive, new 'Stroke is a beast, but some problems, the new Cummins HO is unreal...and SOOOO quiet.

Sorry for the length...later.

Mac,

Excellent post!! I agree 100%! I see lot of engineers at work that I never hear English being spoken ever.

Hey, how come your not fishing?? I did mine yesterday with Buzz, I try to avoid the ramps on Saturdays.

Bob G.

Bob,...I'm surfin' and doin' my coffee now,...artwork most of all day today and fishin' tomorrow!! LOL...I can only fish one day out of the weekend until my "to do" list shortens,..and after signing with A-P a month ago,...i don't see it getting any shorter for awhile!! He called me yesterday and gave me another job to do!! Life is good,..but quality fishing time is at a "premium"...LOL!!

REALLY looking forward to our trip up-north next weekend,.....we're going to time that smallie spawn PERFECTLY,..it's going to be Toadapalooza if Ma Nature cooperates,...I'm praying for partly cloudy to cloudy skies,...no rain,...and just enough breeze to put a ripple on the water. Hi's in the mid to upper 70's and LOTS of cold brewski's...that's what I'm talkin' about!!! LOL

FYI---as far as the foreigners speaking their language at work...man can i relate to that!! Sometimes when I stroll through one of the other buildings where a lot of the enginners work....i can't tell if I'm in a GM building or the United Nations!! A friend of mine complained one day about that to a group of them, (he asked them to "speak English")...guess what happened??!! He ended up in "personnel" having to explain why he "harrassed" a group of foreign engineers!!.....now he's got a permanent "harrasment notation" in his personnel file and all he wanted was to be able to understand what the HELL they were talking about!! Nice aye?

Mac,

I'd like to think that you got to fish all the time and everything just took care of itself!! I know you have worked hard to get where you are and it's paying off!!

Bob G.

When I get more time i'll pull the statistics on % of product sold by GM/Ford in the US vs. Overseas just for fun.

Toxic - It's also about value for my $$. I had a Honda van for 2 1/2 years before it was totaled, insurance paid me $500 LESS then I paid new for the van after 2 1/2 years. The US vans depreciate very quickly out the door for a number of reasons, and if you don't plan to drive them till they completely die you loose big time in resale.

By the way, I currently drive a Ford and a Saturn!
