My sealed steering cable seems to have even gotten stiffer than it was last year to the point of no return. Last year I tapped into the cable from under the dash to see if I could get some penetrating oil into it but could not. Has anyone tried to use a heat gun on them to loosen up the old lubricant if that is what could be causing it? I really seems to me that Tracker placed the cable outlet hole in the upper fiberglass mold too close to the motor putting it in too much of a bind before connecting to the linkage. A friend of mine had the same thing happen to his Bass Cat....he had the $$ to replace it, where I'm trying to be creative and seek alternative routes being I have a little time plus the tools & skills to use them. To never have this happen again, if I can't fix it I'm opting for the hydraulic steering system for my '04 NX882, which I know is twice the cost and would land me in the dog house for the ......rest of my marriage.

Jo,

i had a 2003 NX882 and had the same issue. I know you dont want to spend the extra cash for hydraulic stearing, but it will be the best investment you can put into the boat.

I will never own another boat without it.

Just my 2 cents.

You don't want to try and band-aid fix your steering. Unhook your motor from the cables, if it moves freely back and forth, your cables are shot. Replace them with whatever fits your wallet.

Jo, I have a Skeeter Xs185c and had my dual cables pretty much sieze up. I got teleflex replacement cables for $100 each and took less than 1 hour to swap them out. Much cheaper than hydraulic and makes a world of difference from the old ones. I reckon it's just the difference from determining a need vs a want. I wanted hydraulic also, but $200 vs $700 made up m mind. I can steer with fingers at 60 MPH, although I don't make a habit of it...lol. Good luck bro.
