Just sold my boat and am in the process of getting another. I have test drove a couple of rangers but was not impressed with the speed and performance due to the heavier hull. I am wanting an 18 foot boat but have to stay with a 115 motor due to lake hp limits. Does anyone have a 882 with a 115 and how does it run. Speed, hp etc.

I've only been without a boat now for 2 weeks and I'm already having withdraws!

Thanks SISKO

I know of at least one setup like that. I positively love the boat... Look in the member list for Corey Carrico... Kenosha, WI... Corey has that exact setup and I have fished with him a few times... The boat is great...

The other option is to go with an Avalanche with a 115. You'll get a higher riding boat plus a lot more storage space. Contrary to popular belief I've had mine now for three years. I've got all kinds of scrapes and dents, yet the paint job still looks great. No peeling bubbling or any other problems with the paint job. Plus it's one of the best riding 18 ft. boats I've been in for ruff water ride.

SISKO,

i have a 2003 nx882dc with a 4 stroke 115efi.

i love the boat and the set up. it took a while to get the hole shot right but with a little work from my dealer and i sent the prop out to DAH custom prop it runs awsome. i can get speeds of 56mph on the speedo and 53 on the GPS with a full tourny load 1/4 tank of gas and 1 person.

the advantage to the 4 stroke would be that it doesnt use any gas, i never put more than a 1/4 tank of gas in the boat at a time and never put more than 10.00 in when i fill it. it reduces the weight in the boat as well.

i am in my second season with it and i don't feel there is a better 18' hull on the market. the hull is very stable when on the deck and it handles good size chop and wakes very well.

i would highly recomend this set up to anyone. if you were up in the north east i would invite you out to see it for your self.

Sisko,

As Greg said I have this setup witht he 115 ELPTO. I have seen 52mph as Pat said but an everyday obtainable top speed is more like 48. Hole shot is not bad with two guys and gear....maybe 6-7 seconds. I am running a 22P Laser II but on many peoples recommendations will likely replace it with something a bit nicer this winter.

If you plan on doing a lot of tourneys I would recommend the 150 or 175 unless the 115 limit lake is the one and only you will be fishing. With 40 gallons of gas, full livewell, and two decent sized guys it will struggle a bit in the heat of summer.

Buy as much motor as you can but don't be afraid that the 115 is not enough. For me it has handled 98% of everything I have thrown at it from tourneys, fun fishing, and just plain boating.

Feel free to E-mail me if you have more specific questions...I would be glad to help.

882 with 115 4-Stroke

I get 48ish onthe GPS but that's not really openning her up. I think she'll do 50. I put a Hydrofoil on the motor because with a tournament load, 1/4 tank 2 people I was having a little problem with the hole shot, however later in the day with a full livewell too I was having a lot of problems. With the foil on she pops right up.

Not trying to sway you into buying my boat but I have a 04 750 dc with a 115 for sale. The hull is a little lighter than a 882 and there is not much difference in storage. I almost bought a 882 but it was a bigger step in price and it was only rated for 4 people, the 750 is rated for 5. On plane time is around 3 seconds without losing view of the water over the bow with added hydrofoil. Either way you might give the 750 a look and compare. Mine totaled out the door for over 17,000 and I am asking 14,500. IF you have any questions on the 750 feel free to email me.

Scott,

what are running for a prop. i have a vengance 18p. i sent it out over the winter to DAH custom propella. it made a huge differance in the peformance of the hole shot. it also no longer cavitates when turning at higher speeds.

it was well worth the money to have it reworked.

Just an FYI,.....A Ranger 185 weighs 1555lbs (Dual console)

and a 882DC weighs 1487....making the Ranger a whopping 68lbs "heavier"...that's not even an issue.

Oh and by the way,...A Ranger 520CDX (dual console) hull weighs 1750lbs...(that's for a 20'9" boat) and the Nitro 929 hull which is the same length ways 1949lbs...thats 200lbs HEAVIER than a Ranger in the same length class,...so when somebody says Rangers are too "Heavy"....be aware that some of Nitro's are even "HEAVIER!"...

Just pointing out the facts....carry on!!

(gotta go back to work,....Rick Waggoner wants to know if I'm done with HIS stuff yet!!..;Oo) BWAAhhhaaa

Mac - All is well at Casa LaTrepper!!! LOL Been sweating and working filling the playground back up with mulch (8 cubic yards of it, all transported to the backyard in my utility trailer, since there is no way to get a dumptruck back there) in prep for Eli's 5th B-day party in 3 weeks. Work is good, Beka and the boys are having a ball in school this year. Just wish I could fish more, and this darn hurricane is gonna blow Eli and my usual Sat trip this week!!

Enjoy and let us know what's up with S&T's!!

Thanks for all the info! I'm still not sure what I'm going to do though.

Mac

The weight differnce comment was merely repeated by me from the dealer. I test drove a 2001 R73 on Sat and could only get 46 mph with a 115 fict 2001 evinrude! The boat is nearly a foot and a half shorter and goes 7 mph slower than my last nitro. He blamed it on the weight of the boat. I thought it was propted wrong because it was reving at 6 K and the whole shot and response was almost too good.

either way, a 17 foot boat is just a little too small for me. I get bigger with each deep fried crappie I consume.

Clark..

I am still considering the 750 nx. I haven't been able to see one in person or test one. What part of the country do you live in? Would love to look at it if it's a reasonable drive. Can I ask why your selling?

Thanks SISKO

LOL @ The fried Crappie comment....amen to that!! I'm just pointing out the fact that a lot of people think Ranger's are heavier than other boats in their length class when infact they're not. Remember,..dealers are "salesmen"...and

nobody else's stuff is as good as what "they're selling"!!

Sounds to me like that 'rude might've been a little off kilter or as you suggested,..wrong prop!! Who knows?!

LOL.....good luck in your search...have fun and shop smart!
