Hey all,

I have a night T coming up fathers day weekend. On the water by 6 pm off the next morn at 6 am.

I don't really fish at night and not really sure how to approach this tourney.

I know that the typical top water selection will work,'but the idea of throwing a buzz bait or pop r all night long is not very exciting. So I am looking for any and all suggestions from you night fisherman.

The lake offers lots of over hanging trees along the banks. Plenty of back water with pads and grass. Depth ranges from 30/40' at it's deepest points.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think throwing a buzz bait all night long would be something you want to do. Interestingly, I was talking to someone about night fishing just yesterday. His assessment was that there would be "hot" periods in the hour or so just before the sun goes down and again in the 0200 to 0400 time frame. I would agree from my experience, except for the 0200 to 0400 part -- that is way too late/too early for me ... :D. I would fish like during the day, but don't expect the fish to be packed in on their daylight cover. Sun is down and they may feel a little safer to ramble around, but don't expect them to be cruising like sharks on patrol. Use darker baits, maybe a little larger. Don't throw the Pop-R deeep in the box as you will want to use it some.

Greg,

I fish at night a good bit. Actually a lot of time i spend on the water is between the hours of 6pm and 12am. Personally i love to fish at night, i think the fishing is better i like the cooler air.

My lure of choice at night. A spinnerbait with double colorado blades. I throw my fav (white/chart) until its truly dark then i switch to black. Id say i catch 80% of my fish at night on that lure. I also use topwaters like a sammy(did good on that on Sunday),or a buzzbait. I like the spinnerbait at night over topwater because i get more hookups, at night they tend to short strike the buzzbait and i almost never have that happen with a spinnerbait. I fish it slow and make it thump.

If im fishing in pads i take a page out of Bill's book and throw a soft bodied frog. I also someimes use a plastic ribbontail worm also in black. Another one i like to use is a baby brush hog. I rig it with texas style with a tungsten weight and a tungsten bead to make some noise and work is really slow.

If it was me i would be on those trees, pads and fish any points that have grass on them. Id hope by then they would be in the summer pattern.

I have fished more at night than In the day..I found that i could use about anything as long as It was a dark color...You can also hit the top water stuff and get some suprizes..JR
