Need Help With Depth Gauge

I am finding that my new Lowrance 480M is an awesome GPS, and it a great Sonar when I'm hunting fish at low speeds. Here is my problem, it does not work as a depth gauge at high speeds, so I am considering putting in a separate dash mounted maybe with alarms. What would you all suggest, and will this work at hi speeds? Any ideas in performance, installation, or tips would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Before adding another unit have you checked the position of your transducer? If it is "turbulent" water while you are on plane it won't read well... If it is try moving the transducer right or left and anled down a few degrees.
