My trolling motor is haunted !

Has anyone ever experienced, the power on your trolling motor, going up and down, while it's on the same setting? I noticed it last year, but I thought maybe it was all in my head. I replaced the trolling batteries this year, and now it seems more noticeable. The motor is a brute 67 Motorguide 24 volt. I'll be going along on a particular setting (it's variable speed) and sometimes when I click it on again, it seems like I have to turn it up, or down, to get the same power. Any suggestions? I would check ALL connectors, fuseholders, etc... sounds like a bad connection or it could be the rheostat/pot on the motor... And, for a final thought, water in the motor will cause rust which will cause drag/problems....

Greg's probablly right on. might also pull the prop and see if there is any fishin line tangled up in there around the shaft.

rheostat/pot... the variable speed control... if it is "bad" you can get shorts across the windings...... But if it is a MinnKota its not a rheostat... its actually a switch... so check all the connectors and the motor shaft... that "line" thing could also be a possible casuse of problems

Hi Jim, I was thinking of dropping him an e mail. Well, I checked for line under the prop, none there. I noticed when the charger was plugged in for a while, one of the batteries seemed to need more charge than the other,(green lights on one, a few red ones on the other)
