OK guys ! I need alittle more info on a keel guard for the 188 Sport that we have ordered. Someone suggested Hambys but they are $200 and I'm not sure we need the "best" if $100 model from Cabelas will do the same thing. I do not understand why Tracker doesn't offer this as an option on the Fish and Ski boats as it is an option on the regular bass boats. I think the fish and ski people are much more likey to beach their boat on the shore than the regular bass boaters ! Anyway, does anyone on this board have a keel guard from Cabelas or know anything about their quality? Thanks. Charlotte

Charlotte -

I posed this question about a year ago to one of the manufacturers of keel guard type products. He pretty much confirmed my suspicions..... Kevlar is Kevlar - no matter who cuts it into strips and packages it.

With a little bit of care, you will have no trouble whatsoever installing your own. Just be sure to take your time and line it up straight.

me!

My neighbor has a Hamby's on his Javelin, and I've got a Tech 5 on my Nitro going on 5 years now. The Hambys looks to be wider and thicker than mine though it did cost a few more dollars. From what I understand the trick to good installation is proper prepping of the hull.

Personally, I don't know why a keel gaurd, on board charger, and a hot foot are not standard equipment on every boat. I wouldn't have a boat without those items on board.
