B.A.S.S. Released more info on their rules/regs last night. Of course, I had to go to another web-site (other than bassmaster.com) to read about it.

Anyone else notice how slow to press this website is? It's also pretty empty as far as content. I can pick 4 or 5 other sites that beat them on their own stuff.

It's all the small pieces like this that make me reiterate my feelings from the other day...

this organization needs an enema.

I was sitting here trying to name something I felt they were doing right, struggling to come up with something other than the increased payoffs. I'm not talking about debating the rule changes, I say pick something and stay with it, let's fish! Their inability to make a decision and go with it shows lack of foresight in making that decision and lack of backbone in being able to stay with it.

I also blame them for the high gas prices.

We all need to fish more, and kibitz less. Just trying to figure out how to do it.

My overall take:

BASS is attempting to change. Just not doing it as well as they should be. However, how many re-orgs/changes have you been through in your business life. Any of them go particularly well?

FLW right now is sitting tight, other than their sponsor changes. It will be their turn in the barrell before too long.

The Great Carnack Says (borrowing from the late/great Johnny Carson):

Answer: The Great Sucking Sound that is emerging from FLW.

Question: What is going to happen when Wal-Mart walks away from FLW Sponsorship.

I don't know when their 'deal' is up, but when it is, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't walk away. After all, Wal-Mart is a bottom line business. They aren't doing this because they like Irwin.

Been in a Wal-Mart and seen how little FLW 'stuff' is on the shelves/walking out the door, as compared to their other brands/businesses. Everstart leaving was just the first indication. This will make for interesting watching.

Just my .02 cents worth.

Boy, you are certainly right there.

Most of the time, the re-org's I've generally been in have been hetic/chaotic at best. Most have been nerve racking, but a couple have gone 'well'.

I'm guessing that one of their failings within BASS/ESPN is trying to figure out just 'who' they talk to in the pro-ranks. Let's face it, for all the griping we hear/see, there are probably just as many that like what they are doing.

Several years ago, their core group of anglers (advisory panel), strongly suggested going to a smaller tour (100 boats) and boosting the paybacks. I'm also certain that the pro's would love a smaller entry fee (or none), but the sport hasn't progressed that far as yet.

From the BassFan website:

PAA says nay 9/30/2005

In a press release issued today, the Professional Anglers Association (PAA) stated its position regarding the most recent version of the Bassmaster Elite Series Participation Agreement. PAA director Gene Ellison said, "We (The PAA board) reached out and communicated with the vast majority of our membership to discuss the agreement. Upon review of the responses, the members and the PAA board are opposed to the entire package as it is currently written.

"Since the new regulations and stipulations imposed would cause anglers to violate existing sponsor agreements, our anglers' sponsor contracts legally prevent them from signing the BASS contracts."

The press release further stated that 85% of PAA members responded to an internal survey and "unanimously opposed" the Participation Agreement. "This association has never been so unified in its opinion and stance," Ellison said. He also requested that BASS reconsider its Nov. 1 registration deadline.

The issue of contract legality is quickly taking center stage. Many anglers, and manufacturers, have stated that clothing requirements as outlined by BASS would violate existing angler/sponsor contracts. For example, Larry Nixon told BassFan: "Right now, the way they've got the shirts set up, they have me knocked plumb out. If they stand by what they printed, I cannot fish them."

Maybe they can hire Michael Brown to get things organized.:lol:

"You're doin' a GREAT job Brownie!"
