Mold in Rod Lockers

I fished 3 straight days in the rain, I was thrilled that all my lockers,except my rod lockers, stayed dry . Well when I put the boat up and headed back to work. I left the boat cover off. (The rig is stored in a car port.) to let the boat dry. The following week I got it out and now I got mold in the rod lockers, it looks like old cheese. If any one has a idea of how to clean it and maybe prevent it from happening again, I would appreciate it.

I can't use bleach because these lockers are carpeted

Park her out in the sun and clean with soap/water. Leave rod lockers open until they are completely dry and you should be OK.
